James Pearson is one of Britain's most talented and in-demand pianists. He is regularly featured on BBC Radio, and tours Europe performing with his own group, various Big Bands and accompanying some great singers. This album is his first solo release, and features many of his favourite standards and 3 originals; all given inventive, sensitive and often-humorous treatment. James is often on the listings at Ronnie Scott's jazz club, London, as both a featured act with his trio, and as the support band for visiting artists.
This album was nominated for "Best New Album" in the British Jazz Awards 2005, has received critical acclaim in the British press and is featured regularly on radio playlists.
James Pearson - piano
Jeremy Brown - bass
Matt Skelton - drums
Incidentally, James Pearson was chosen to be Kevin Spacey's personal piano tutor for his movie about the life of Bobby Darin, "Beyond The Sea", and Jeremy Brown and Matt Skelton also performed on the soundtrack with The John Wilson Orchestra, recorded at London's Abbey Road studios. A great experience, working with Phil Ramone - one of the world's great producers!
"This is the kind of jazz piano album anyone can enjoy. The up tempo numbers swing joyously, the ballads are full of nice, crunchy harmonies that bring out the melody to perfection." The Observer, November 2004 (UK National Newspaper)
"An inspired, and inspiring, debut." Jazzwise Magazine
"Young multi-talented musicians are not exactly a rarity today, and it takes an exceptionally gifted artiste to stand out and be noticed. James Pearson is exactly that; his masterful playing and his imaginative work as a composer and arranger combine to make him head and shoulders above most of his contemporaries. I believe he shows signs of true greatness in the making." John Dankworth
