ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Jennifer's distinctive musical approach has been described simply as soulful. Her music is a powerful blend of seriousness and whimsy, embracing the ultra hip modern while paying homage to the nostalgic. This native-born Texan, gifted with an angelic voice, is also a skillful pianist. She can deliver her song's message with reserved elegance and in the next instant slam it down with a ferocity that is impossible to ignore. This versatile musician's talent not only lies in performance, but in writing, arranging, and production. All of which merge elements of pop, jazz, R&B and dance to form a unique and soul-wrenching style.

Jennifer is classically trained, having studied piano 13 years and voice for four. She received her degree in Jazz Studies from the University of North Texas in 1994. While attending college, her versatility quickly became evident. Due to the classical vocal training, she landed a spot in the soprano section of the Dallas Symphony Chorus. Classical lessons afforded her the opportunity to sing in several different languages, including German, Italian, and French. Singing in Portuguese became part of her repertoire when she performed with the Unified Jazz Ensemble, a jazz quintet funded by the National Endowment for the Arts. She was a four-year member of the University of North Texas Jazz Singers, a group that performed challenging to rather difficult arrangements of jazz compositions and vocalist in the UNT Zebras, a fusion and funk band. Other endeavors included: singing and playing keys with Robert Lee Kolb and The Local Heroes, a Dallas pop, rock, and soul band; featured vocalist with the jazz group Frank Heye Project and with Cavalcade of Stars, an impersonation and show band; back-up vocalist for a pop/ rock group Tin Man, which recorded two CDs and received air time on Dallas' KEGL, The Eagle 97.1. All of these experiences contributed to the development of the musical style that is uniquely Jennifer.

After college, Jennifer spent a year playing piano and singing aboard American Hawaii Cruises' SS Independence. Upon returning to Dallas in 1996, she continued to expand her musical horizons by performing as vocalist with different cover bands including Icehouse and Frontline. She explored the blues and more jazz in The Groove Poets. She made her first television appearances on programs such as Good Morning Texas and Positively Texas, where she began showcasing her original music. She then moved to Los Angeles, where she wrote, performed, and produced her first album and began playing her songs in clubs. In 2001, Jennifer returned to Dallas, TX, where along with the promotion of her self-titled CD, she sings for radio commercials, and performs at an array of venues.

In 2006, Jennifer co-wrote and recorded album “Slow Burn” with fellow musician Face. The music is an eclectic mix of house, funk, R&B, and songwriter. The album is located on cdbaby at www.cdbaby.com/cd/facemusic or www.myspace.com/facerecordings.

The must have CD of 2004!
To lump JP's new CD in with all the recent singer/songwriter releases would be an injustice; this is something different and fresh. This CD showcases tremendous singing, writing, playing, and production. She handles subjects everyone can relate to, in a way that may make some laugh and others cry; either way it is sure to MOVE you in addition to grooving you. Real music played by real musicians...what a concept!

What a refreshing blend of great vocals, songwriting and style.
This CD is very hard to describe. It's great yet very unique. JP sings and plays with so much soul, it's hard believe she's not known outside of her native Texas. My favorite song is track 4, Move. It has hints of Sade and Carly Simon all rolled into Jennifer's own sound. The simple Show How You Feel is a crowd pleaser that makes you think you've heard it all before. That's a GOOD Thing. I particularly like the way her songs remain true to real musicians and live recording. After scanning the liner notes, I recognize Lee Sklar as the bassist. This is a true heavyweight session player by any standard. He has been with James Taylor, Phil Collins, and many other stars. Glad JP was able to get him involved. This is one CD that is hard to figure but easy to enjoy. More! More! More!

CD Baby

From breathtaking, piano-based folky pop that seems to match and celebrate the expanses inside of your mind (think Kate Fenner, Jann Arden, Annie Lennox) to a swaying, groovy step into R&B and even a reach into funk (think a slightly toned down India Arie or Sade), one thing is for certain- no matter what this talented woman attempts, she's bound to succeed. With a powerful, from-the-gut voice that carries her through many a genre and with her attention to a solid foundation in songwriting, every element, from jazz to pop, is closely refined and celebrated in this rich, full-spectrum album.

Very, very nice!
I was sold on this after only hearing the samples. Can you wear a cd out from playing it too much? I'll soon know cause i'm killing this with rotation. I'm a fan of Jennifer now, tried and true. Just a wonderful piece of work! Can't wait to see her perform live.
