notes
“Malleable pop” without too fine a point, is the pop music J.P. Hoe creates. Open minded melodic patterns that can change from “indy rock” to “alt-country” at the drop of a hat, or, whenever there is a personnel shuffle in his band the Truly Richards. His EP The Here In Review was released in 2003 and was met with great success for a quiet independent artist. He was rewarded with accolades, hundreds of spins on commercial radio and thousands of plays on college stations in Canada and the US. Though they compare him to David Gray, Rufus Wainwright, and Martin Sexton, his voice, like theirs, gives him his identity and is the driving force behind audiences merrily humming away.
May ’06 will see JP release a live project recorded in his hometown of Winnipeg “THE LIVE BETA PROJECT”, and has him on a small US tour promoting the intimate, brash, and unapologetic record. Comprised of two nights; bootlegged, full band, and full audience, the album gives new listeners a glimpse of what’s to come from this artist, and more material for the loyal fans to memorize. And later this year, Hoe will release a studio project with producer/artist David Lowery (Cracker, Camper Van Beethoven, Counting Crows, Sparklehorse) he has begun recording at the Sound of Music Studios in Richmond Virginia.
Enamoured with the open road, Hoe has been tirelessly working North America for the past few years, enjoying showcase dates in Toronto (Canadian Music Week, North By Northeast), Cincinnati (Midpoint Music Fest) and most recently Vancouver (Western Canadian Music Awards). Although technically “indy” Hoe has already cracked commercial radio at home and abroad, and surely both of the upcoming projects will fuel his continued success.
“There's something soothing and relaxing about J.P. Hoe's stage presence. It's like an old sweater that is just so damn comfortable you can't get rid of it. His blend of melodies and lyrics make for solid and intelligent pop music. Check him out and figure it out for yourself, it's definitely worth it.” -Rob Kingston ChartAttack.com, CMW 2005

Great Canadian Artist
author: EdSaw JP live at a Jann Arden concert and was immediately impressed! Great with the audience and an awesome David Gray-esque sound. Highly recommended.
Wow! Excellent CD... Highly recommend it!
author: MirandaI first heard JP Hoe perform when he opened for Jann Arden and his music instantly caught my ear and made me want to hear more. I purchased this disc and was NOT disappointed. If you like John Mayer or Blue Rodeo you'll like JP Hoe as he's like a mix of both with his own special flair. An excellent album to kick back and relax to or to brighten your day.
Wow. A stunning collection of acoustic-based songs with JP Hoe's magical vocals.
author: Kristen FischerJP Hoe and the Truly Richards: The Live Beta Project Purchase this CD Wow. A stunning collection of acoustic-based songs with JP Hoe's magical vocals. You can feel his pain and joy in each line of "Always," which kicks off this live album. Hoe sounds an awful lot like David Gray, but his songs are more simple and honest. Still, you have the backup of a professional band with a sharp sound as his voice soars. Things get soft and sweet in "All of a Sudden," a song sure to make the ladies swoon. If you ask me, he has a brilliant career ahead of him, and this live recording will one day be a savored gem when he hits it big. I love that we heard him first. Favorite Tracks: All of a Sudden, Always Rating: 5 stars
