I have loved playing fingerstyle guitar for thirty years now.

I lived and breathed the Tacoma Records artists' tunes (Kottke, Lang, Fahey, Ruskin, Basho, Hand) for their vigor and strong melodies. Repeated listenings still hold surprises for me.

Leo's "A Good Egg" smote me first--I can't use a flat pick since. Then I used up dozens of batteries falling asleep to the Armadillo album, on a cassette player with no auto stop.
Later, the Windham Hill bag held uncharted tunings and techniques, with an ear for fullness and clarity of sound. Ackerman, DeGrassi, Hedges, each one expanding himself--the guitar plays not only tunes; the guitar plays movements, plays waves, plays rivers, plays with your mind...
A couple of years ago I heard Peter Lang's brand new instrumental "Big Mo's Habanero" and I laughed out loud. Still playing with such spark!

The solo guitar field is so wide and long...so much vitality. My inspiration these days is Tommy Emmanuel, who draws on many who have come before him. Endlessly creative, tunes full of flair and humor.
