Album Notes

Jon Robert Quinn tried something new with this CD. "...A New Beginning" brings a new acoustic touch with bluesy and light poetic lyrics about life and love.

One listen to this new CD and you'll instantly fall in love with the new sound of JRQ.

"A lot people ask why I mellowed out with this cd and with as busy as my schedule is with my other businesses, I dont have a lot of time to sit down and ROCK OUT, I just want to relax and write something that makes me feel good. Over the past 10 years, I have played hundreds of shows and people know what I can and cannot do on the guitar and I just wanted to bring something new to the table and open up a completely different audience."

JRQ made sure to include a couple a new instrumental tracks but listen for the new JRQ on the radio in your town.

Here's a breakdown of each song from the mind of Jon Robert Quinn.

A NEW BEGINNING - This song was originally on the CD entitled A New Beginning. A girl called me and asked me to produce her record. I said sure, but wanted to make sure she was good enough to market. I started writing material and came up with this Britney Spears type song. I don't remember what it was called. Well, when she showed up, all I can say is, it wasn't pretty. So, I took the song, slowed it down about 10-15 bpm, added a delay over the whole track and wrote a new song over the track. So, if you take this song, remove the delay from the track, remove the guitar and speed it up, itll sound like a pop song.

CALIFORNIA CHRISTMAS - Who doesn't love Christmas music? I know I do. You come to a point in your career when you have to write a Christmas song. Funny thing is, it was probably April when it was written and recorded. I wanted to write a song that applied to the Christmas season as well as the rest of year. I was once told that this song sounded like it shouldve been on the show, The OC. That show has since been taken off the air, but its still a great song with a great melody.

HI - This is probably my favorite song I have ever written. It tells the story of my life as a child. I wasn't one of the COOL kids. Not many friends, just kind of did my own thing. I wasn't really good with the girls either. Didnt get a date until my sophomore year of highschool. In the song, I mentioned talking to my mom on phone. When I was a child, my parents separated and it was years that I didn't see her because she had moved out of state. It was a good day when I could talk to my mom on the phone.

A HOLLOW MEMORY - Honestly, I really don't remember why I named this song A Hollow Memory. Its really pretty song though. It was probably one of those wild cards. I had a song without a name and a name without a song... LOL. Now we have a song with a name.

I LOVE YOU - Take the words to this song, pick up a guitar and learn the chords. Play it to your loved one. I'm sure they will love it. This is a really pretty and real love song. Its not one of those, get rich, drive a ferrari, meet a super model and live in a penthouse love songs. This long song can relate to anybody. Have a listen.

CITY LIGHTS - This is a great song and was a lot of fun to record. From the A New Beginning CD in 2007, this song is an ode to Sacramento, California. It meantions "the heights", referring to Del Paso Heights, a division of Sacramento, then goes into saying "Up ahead I see the city lights", referring to the Sacramento skyline. The guitar is especially beautiful in this song. I love the tonal qualities of the guitar and the groove kicks.

DARK AS DAY, DARK AS NIGHT - At the time this song was written, my girlfriend and I were having a lot of problems. Things were really on the rocks and I was scared of losing the good things we shared. This song was a wake up call as to how I felt about us. I wanted to take the truth of one of our many fights and put it into a song with a senario that may change the way she thought of the situation. We ended up splitting taking some time apart. I moved away and One Day at a Time was written. After time alone, we both decided what we needed to do. Everything was different and now I am back to writing happy songs, rather than sad ones.

WHY - This song is in connection with Dark as Day, Dark as Night. Listen to the words and relate the two songs together. I am glad things ended up the way they did, but times were very difficult when these songs were recorded. I am sure we can all relate this song. There are times we look at the person we love and just say Why?

FEEL YOUR LOVER - There comes a point when we all need to take a minute and think about what we have. Most of us have a person we love and that loves us, but sometimes we don't think about how special it is to have that other person. This song, written in 2007 was designed for you to take a minute to Feel Your Lover.

Thank you for reading this and please listen to the music. Enjoy it and a musical journey into my life.

History behind the artwork.

I was very alone when I wrote this music. I was up late one night when I getting the CD finished and ready for release. I needed an album cover and wasn't in a position to go out for a photo shoot. I simply took the camera and sat in front of an old painting of San Francisco in my living room. After a little photoshop, the album cover came out great.
