notes
"I started playing music in bands years ago because I couldn't dance, I started to write my own songs because I just thought that was simply what you did."
"I had just gotten my first guitar and after having learned four or five chords I wrote my first song and the chords were even in a different order than I had learned them. By the way, that first song is understandably NOT on my CD "Dreams".
Steve Howard is a singer/songwriter who, although based in New England, has performed his music all over the country. He has worked and shared the stage with many noted performers from Tom Rush and Jamie Brockett to Jerry Garcia, Peter Rowan, Dave Bromburg, Juice Newton and
Lacy J. Daltron.
His songs are stories, sometimes serious, at times humorous but each with Steve's unique style and craftsmanship.
"I, like most writers, write about my experiences or observations. I really try not to take things too seriously, life, my songs or myself and as I have said many times, I would like to thank my old friends, lovers,
brothers, mothers, fathers, and other influences in my life without whom these songs would be instrumentals with a lot of humming."
Steve's solo CD, J. Stephen Howard "Dreams" is an excellent showcase for his songs and talent.
" His life surrounded by the great New England tradition of singer/songwriters, Steve Howard with his wonderful voice and gift for melody is one of the great undiscovered treasures of contemporary folk music."
"Quietly playing for 30 years, touring from Maine to California, he is one of the best singer songwriters no one has heard of YET! Watch out, we are about to witness a 30 year overnight success." - Jay Howlett, BlahBlahWoofWoof Records.
Boy, after those fine words from Jay Howlett, I almost feel like going out and buying my own
CD! All kidding aside, CD Baby gets thousands of hits a day, so why? You might well ask yourself, should you spend your hard earned music money on my CD "Dreams"? Because, you would hate yourself if you didn't. OK so "hate" is a little strong, but this CD is really a geat listen, and there may be a quizz on it later.
Also, if you at any time should happen to Email me at, Show12@juno.com, " I " and not a secretary nor a "Service" will answer you. So give the CD a listen and drop me a line, I would love to hear from you.
Thanks,
Steve Howard

original and accessible, worthy of a wider audience
author: Tom Perkins, producer/engineerThis is one of the most accessible records I've listened to in a long time; everything about it is just right. Howard's lyrics are straightforward, attached to deceptively original melodies. His imagery is wonderfully visual, and the instrumentation is perfect for the songs. Some songs are laugh-out-loud funny, others are poignant, all are nicely placed within the arc of his style. The production is first-rate. He deserves a far wider audience; this record belongs in your collection.

An eclectic mix of quality songs with emphasis on lyrics, harmony and instrument
author: Jack GubancJ.Stephen Howard's album is a mix of Texas swing, Urban swing, doo wop, country and folksy storytelling. His musical influences are obviously diverse and he has created a mix of songs that are consistent in the quality of singing, harmony and his arrangements. A quality first disc from an artist who carefully develops the lyrics and instrumentation for each of his songs.
