Album Notes
Singer/songwriter James Stanley Howen (Jimmy to his
friends) has many years of performing both in bands
and as an acoustic artist behind him. While playing
the songs of some of the greatest singer/songwriters
in the American tradition like John Prine, Rodney
Crowell and Merle Haggard has influenced his original
music, Jimmy has found his own voice as singer and
songwriter. The sounds of Americana, Classic Country
and Southern Rock all make their marks on Jimmy's

On his first full length CD, Jimmy presents a series
of songs written by him, lyricist Harry Hamm and
producer Donny Weber. From the timeless imagery of
"Where the Mighty Rivers Meet," to the humor of
"Beside Myself" and "Some Guys Have All the Luck" and
the reflections of "I Owe it All to You" and "Too Late
to Say I Love You," Jimmy and Harry's songs cover the
emotional gamut. The mix of traditional acoustic
instruments with modern electronics reflect Jimmy's
roots in the American tradition and his openness to
new experiences and influences.

An Entertaining Musical Gem..
I Love this CD! I have had "Side by Side" for some time and it is awesome. Its first track "Where the Mighty Rivers Meet" is a masterpiece in itself, very well produced. That's for starter. Jimmy and his very talented Friends have all come together and created a Country Classic. I have become friends with Jimmy to the point we refer to one another as Brothers from another Mother, which in its self is the exact feeling you will come away with after listening to Side by Side. Songs like "I owe it all to you" , I asked Jimmy if I could send it to my Parents as a testament to their Love. The Trucker in "Tell Mama" , "The has been ( that never was) all classics. I can't say enough great things about This CD and the great folks who put it all together.
I've enjoyed every track each time I hear it. Buy this one! A Country Classic that will stand the test of time.

"He's the voice of every person who has ever lived the open road!"
This is an old timey country album complete with the modern sound of today's instruments. Each song paints a story that makes you feel like you know the main character. Exceptionally produced and tastefully arranged. Keep it up Jimmy and the gang!

A 'Storytellers' Album
From the first to the last and all songs in between, James Stanley Howen’s “Side by Side” is a wonderfully crafted and produced CD album performed by gifted musicians and delivered with James’ signature warm, peaceful, Midwest country vocals that will have you almost hearing and tasting the smell of logs crackling and burning in a campfire and the sound of waters rippling and cascading together right “Where The Mighty Rivers Meet”. This is a ‘storytellers’ album by one of the finest indie country singer/songwriter and gentleman bar none anywhere on the planet. I have the CD. I love it!!
