From The Vaults: DC Reggae Band JohnStone Releases Long Awaited Dub Album Dub Confidence

(Washington, DC) Tuesday August 24th marks the release of JohnStone's Dub Confidence, the long awaited collection of dub versions remixed from the originally released songs off the widely praised Innocent Children album. According to reggaereviews.com, “Innocent Children is like stepping into a time machine and transporting yourself back to the age of classic roots harmony. ” Additional praise for Innocent Children came from Tom Orr, a former contributor to The Beat, and founder of the world music online record review site, World Music Central. He states, "JohnStone proved with their last disc and this one that their music is as consciously edifying as reggae gets. Their instrumental chops are full of nimble expertise, the shared lead vocals of guitarist Andre White and drummer Alfred Adams brim with no-nonsense conviction."

Dub Confidence highlights the thumping drum and bass rhythms, sweet melodies and killer compositions of the original JohnStone line-up: Andre White on vocals and guitars; Alfred Adams on vocals, drums and percussions; Brendan DeMelle on backing vocals and bass; Joseph Manekin on keyboards and Benjamin Crandall on tenor saxophone. Behind the boards is legendary engineer and dub maestro Jim Fox, who has worked with Steel Pulse, Black Uhuru, Israel Vibration and countless other leading reggae bands. The combination of his valued ear and considerable dubbing talents, along with the beautifully crafted tunes of one of the most original, self contained reggae groups to come out of the US or anywhere, makes Dub Confidence an important record and piece in the JohnStone discography. Just as the dub version of their debut record Eyes Open did five years earlier, Dub Confidence is sure to inspire confidence in anyone who loves the golden era of reggae music, and who seeks out those who respect the art form, carry on its lyrical messages and further explore its rich musical traditions. It is a musical treasure and a must buy for reggae aficionados.
