J T Hall is the stage name of James Hall originally from Toledo Ohio. The stage name was taken because of sharing the same name with the jazz great Jim Hall also residing in Nashville, TN. That\'s show biz!
A self taught musician, J T did not start in music until leaving the US Marines. He taught himself to play the guitar during personal time on board the aircraft carrier USS Coral Sea. Upon returning from the military, he entered college, and began playing in a band to earn money, and have some fun. The band ultimately worked the Holiday Inn circuit playing cover tunes around the country. J T wound up in Phoenix, AZ where he attended and received a
degree in marketing from Arizona State University.
During his time in Phoenix, J T wrote songs of his own and met Debbie Campbell, daughter of Glen. He played guitar in her band and sang backup. Debbie\'s band played Las Vegas, giving him experience at a demanding level.
While working on some of his own songs in Phoenix, he met
Billy Williams, Producer for Lyle Lovette. Billy told him that he had to go to Nashville if he was serious about writing music. He eventually moved to Nashville after taking periodic trips for NSAI song writing events. An interesting result of these trips was meeting Garth Brooks (pre-success) who was traveling from Oklahoma to attend these events as well. Later, J T was surprised to meet Garth at a Nashville club (post success) and have him
remember who he was!
The CD was recorded in Nashville with players that have traveled and recorded with Garth Brooks, Lyle Lovette, Wynona Judd, Glen Campbell, Don Williams, and McBride and The Ride.
