Album Notes

John Turner: The Piano Man Sings includes some of Turner’s original songs about the real “characters” who inhabit the musical night life of the clubs, saloons and pubs where he plies his musical trade. The album also includes some public domain ragtime pieces that show off Turner’s stride piano skills.

He began his career as a church pianist at the age of nine and was dubbed “Little Liberace” in elementary school. He went on to play professionally with the Aristocrat Dance Orchestra in his hometown of Fairfield, Iowa while still in high school. After a twenty year career as an Air Force Bandsman Turner retired in the Colorado Springs area and now lives in Pueblo, Colorado where he continues to perform with his two dance bands as well as doing freelance work as a musician and arranger. He’s a published arranger and composer and continues those endeavors.
