Album Notes

"jud has that secret something that most never possess. his songwriting skills are superior, his playing is pristine and exactly to the point. it embraces the music, hugs the voice and in turn shows tremendous potential. if he and his crew continue their quest, they will succeed. jud is in the process of streamlining his current efforts and will soon enter that group of select players that create truly new ideas, something we are in sore need of. you will hear much of jud in the months and years to come, and it will be good. very good!"

reviews............

when jud duncan plays, it isn't memorable because he makes entertaining commentary between songs, though sometimes he can be pretty funny. and you don't remember him because his music has pleasant melodies, even though his songs do. and you don't come back to see him again because he does a good cover of the police's message in a bottle, even if it is a catchy rendition.

jud's music stays with you because every note of every song, every lyric uttered, every inch of his body while he is playing, demands complete openness. he makes himself vulnerable, and gives himself, his soul, his deepest feelings, to the audience.

sometimes it's uncomfortable, when you feel like crying in front of the strangers in the club, sometimes it's uplifting, when you feel like getting up and dancing, but inevitably his performance will leave a mark, and you will find yourself humming the chorus of honest man, or tapping the beat from paint the sky, long after the show is over.

in this era of color-coded anxiety and mind-numbing newscasts, it's easy to lose sight of the things that are pleasurable and meaningful. music has always been an important part of my life and it seems to me that watching and listening to jud duncan perform helps to reset my inner compass to what truly matters.

jud is the ultimate proverbial box of chocolates - you never know what you're going to get. each performance is unique; his supporting cast of musicians is ever changing, new songs continually introduced, and his wardrobe malfunctions are almost never pre-planned.

his shows have become great community, the opportunity to greet old friends and meet new ones. but the reward still comes down to the music, waiting for what i like to call the "pin drop" moment, when all eyes and ears are tuned in to the song, the message, the moment. it's worth seeking out in every performance, and it's a powerful reminder that beauty, sincerity and hope still exists.

"enter jud duncan... a willowy boy/man, with a little jeff buckley in the eyes, and the love child of peter gabriel and sting in the voice......a touching performer who intimately invites you up on stage, just to hang....
to crawl around inside his songs."

Innovative and Inspiring
author: Melody Alderman

As Little World begins to play, I am not sure what to expect. Solo bass and random percussion consisting of pizza boxes, trashcans and whatever other items happened to be lying around the studio. Then there are the vocals. With Jud Duncan's powerful, beautifully hypnotic voice and any resemblance to Sting or Peter Gabriel is quickly forgotten. Jud has a sound very much his own, which is a rare accomplishment in today's age of music. He is an intimate songwriter who makes you feel as though you are a part of something very special while listening to his stories. Through the melodic hook of 'the reason' to the very personal 'good-bye', you find yourself on a journey. A journey that once it ends, you can't wait to start the CD over and take that journey again.
