notes
Jud Caswell is a very particular kind of Maine singer-songwriter. He comes from that place where the two Maines meet: where ex-hippies play cribbage with fishermen and a kind of rural poetry is infused with no-nonsense Yankee pragmatism.
He grew up on a little farm in Morrill, Maine, picking carrots and milking goats; listening to records by Cat Stevens and the Beatles and readings from Kahlil Gibran. This perspective keeps him grounded even as his songs reach deeper.
Praised as "emotionally resonant, deeply affecting and superbly crafted," his songs approach social commentary and simple pleasures with the same integrity and genuineness that he brings to the stage, captivating audiences and making friends as well as fans.

"Jud Caswell Lost & Found"
CD Review by SI
Excerpts:
"Clever, well-groomed lyrics, percussive guitar playing and a powerful yet tender voice propel this fourth release from this Brunswick, Maine, singer/songwriter."
"Caswell's songs, a blend of folk, jazz, Celtic, and rock, ride the politically savvy in the driving "451"... to the touching and haunting "Leather Shoes."
"Sweet fingerstyle acoustic guitar leads "Up Through the Snow."
"Caswell's vocals reminded me of Ellis Paul in intensely personal songs that offer slices of life and lovely imagery..."
"Caswell's voice and guitars (sometimes sounding like Leo Kottke when playing 12-string) stand out."

Boston Herald
"Maine's Jud Caswell is one of those expert, multigifted folk singers who are surprisingly unknown outside their home territory. Caswell's guitar playing is elegant, his voice both personable and tuneful, his songs neatly crafted, his sound imbued with warm energy."

Lost & Found Selected as one of "Doug's Top 5 for April 2004"
CD Review by Douglas Sloan
Excerpts:
"The Maine based singer-songwriter-guitarist Jud Caswell incorporates Celtic, folk, and pop into the tracks of his new CD 'Lost & Found' and winds up with an appealing collection of original songs."
"First and foremost, Caswell is a superb acoustic fingerpicking style guitarist. His clean right hand picking is flawless and precise and adds a vitality to the songs. Inject his warm, friendly voice and these compositions soar with heartwarming appeal."
"Caswell wrote all fourteen numbers on... this excellent release. Expect Caswell and his music to grow in stature with every listen of this CD."
----------
Boston Phoenix
"Jud Caswell matches lyrics that are sentimental and personal but never cloying with a style of acoustic-guitar picking that is equally full of bright detail."
----------
Port City Life
"Take a little bit of Paul Simon, mix it with James Taylor, Bob Dylan and Shawn Colvin, and you've got Jud Caswell... "
"Lost & Found is a terrific listen. Caswell's lyrics have soul... he evokes a full range of emotions... this is music you will listen to over and over again."
----------
Kennebec Journal
"Lost & Found is one of the finest singer-songwriter CDs I've heard in a long, long time. In many ways, it reminds me of David Mallett's albums in its simplistic beauty and drop-dead gorgeous guitar work."
"This magna cum laude graduate of Dartmouth College has musical smarts - as the 14 self-penned tracks on this, his fourth album, prove. I can't sing the praises of this glistening CD enough!"
"I've commented on his smooth vocal delivery, but it's even smoother and warmer than his last album, whether he's doing an up-tempo slice-of-life ("Andy's Wedding"), a lilting ballad ("This Winter Night") or a cautionary tale ("451")."
"Caswell is a bona fide wonder... delightful!"

Fantastischer Singer-/Songwriter
Wir haben das Glück gehabt Jud Caswell dieses Jahr live zu sehen. Er schreibt herrliche Melodien. Er spielt fantastisch Gitarre. Seine Songs haben Tiefe. Einfach spitze.
The songs and voice of a good friend.
author: Rick Babcock from SoundthingI had the pleasure to meet Jud Caswell at the Kerrville Folk Fest in 2006, bought his CD while there, and now I am buying another for a friend. Real good music for a real good friend.
Beautiful guitar and lovely lyrics!
author: DeAnna Medart, Wildflower! audienceWith his beautiful guitar and his heartfelt lyrics, Jud Caswell's LOST & FOUND is an easy listen with a glass of wine at the end of the day. While it's difficult to choose only one favorite song from this CD, the title song is the one I find myself humming during the day. Only one word, Jud- MORE!!!!!
gentle, beautiful, fine guitar
author: Annie ZCan't believe more people don't know this singer-songwriter. He writes personal, poetic songs with beautiful melody - my favorites on this CD are Andy's Wedding & Lost&Found, but there are no bad songs on the CD - don't miss it!
Whatever happened To Rob
author: Dan Tolman, Winchester Center ConnecticutI was lucky enough to hear Jud perform Whatever happened to Rob on my sunporch in late spring last year. He was warming up for that night's concert, and wanted to know what I thought of his new song. Same as I do now. The story is so familiar, but something I could never articulate myself. I have my own "Robs", too many of them for sure. Classic Jud Caswell, highly personal, poetic, beautifully simple guitar picking and it always lingers. Great song. And dont forget to call Rob.
great lyrics, clean guitar work
author: steve bthe title cut is wonderful! i really enjoy the addtional instrumentation without it being overpowering.
Excellent CD. This is clean, superb guitar playing that transports the listener
author: Dave OHave you heard of this guy yet? WOW. He just blows me away. This is a wonderful CD. The music is polished and the guitar and vocals transport the listener to another place. Jud raises the bar for contemporary folk music with his craft and ear for perfection. I can't wait to hear his next CD.
What word indicates a step up from perfect?
author: Seth Koenig, The ForecasterTo call Jud's latest CD "glowing" is still yet dim. I've been searching in a number of different forums and CD review postboards to advocate Jud's work to the degree it deserves, and I'm still struggling. I'd be lying if I said it sufficed to say that no matter your taste, Jud is for you. By lacking the terms "perfect craftsmanship" and "beautifully lyrical" and "densely meaningful", I can avoid unintentionally critically pigeon-holing the work as "too intellectual" or "critic-oriented music", which nobody really likes. So while all of those nice things are true, the effects of the sound of Jud's music, in its purist, simplest Jud Concentrate is good. Yes, it's densely meaningful and applies perfect craftsmanship, but more importantly, you will like it. You will like it if you like Ellis Paul, but you also like it if you like Good Charlotte, Beethoven, Bob Dylan or Metallica. Jud's quality transcends music style categories. You have to listen to understand. So listen.
Another gem!
author: Benjamin RafuseThis album seems to venture more towards the area of a cohesive band than his earlier recordings that were just him and his guitar. I love the direction and I love the results. The song "451" evokes an image of something fundamentally sinister about our American heritage, while "Meeting Mairghread" still makes me laugh everytime I hear it. Jud Caswell is not just a musican and song writer but a skilled story teller weaving images you will never forget.
Delightful, well-crafted CD.
author: JamesA very well-ordered CD, and I’m not sure I’ve ever said that in a review before. Superbly produced (was this his own studio?) that only adds to the CD. Just listened to ‘Too Hot” yesterday as I was staring at a 47 degree temperature reading – this music exemplifies life up here in Maine even when it’s not terribly applicable.
Refreshing, vibrant, uplifting
author: Alan RichI can't get enough of this man's fine talent. Amazing just doesn't say enough. I've had the pleasure of meeting Jud in a professional capacity on two occasions and have found him to be just as personable as his music. A true candidate for stardom. Go get'um Jud!

The songs make you smile and want to be with friends.
author: Diane SargentEach of the songs are full and meaningfull. There are no fillers on this CD's. My fave would have to be Andy's Wedding. Even my teen who is more into loud thumping music will pull up a chair and talk to me when this song is played.
