Album Notes

The Boston Herald describes Jud Caswell as "one of those expert, multigifted folk singers who are surprisingly unknown outside their home territory." Since the release of his latest CD, "Lost & Found," Jud has been working hard to change that "unknown" status.

Caswell has won more than a dozen national songwriting accolades in the last 18 months. He won the 2004 Great American Song Contest and the Rose Garden Coffeehouse Performing Songwriter Competition. He has also won honors from the Telluride Troubadour competition, American Songwriter Magazine, the Boston Folk Festival, and the Philadelphia Songwriters Project.

Caswell has been a performing musician all his life. He studied bassoon and saxophone before taking up the acoustic guitar while earning his music degree from Dartmouth College. Caswell lives in Brunswick, ME.

Simplify is a dynamic adventure into storytelling. I loved the intricacies of the lyrics and music, how they worked together to paint an image.

Nothing simply about this CD.

I thought "Better Things" would be a tough act to follow but Jud Caswell did it in spades with this recording. I'm still blown away with how intricate and complex the song "Simplify" is. Based on the writings of Henry Thoreau, this song not only challenges us to simplify but also makes us aurally aware of just how complicated our lives are. Listen to it with headphones and you'll be impressed, too!
