If mama ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy. That's how it is for Americana Top 40 recording artist Judy Wright as she writes & sings about her Mother falling down on "If Mama Ain't Happy," featured on her new CD "True to Myself".
ABC Radio describes Wright’s voice as "sultry as a night breeze in the French Quarter.” Her first CD, self-titled "Judy Wright," landed in the Top 20 on the national Americana chart.
This time, Wright has put together a selection of songs that Homegrown Americana Radio Consulting and legendary DJ Rick Star calls "truly mesmerizing." Wright wrote or co-wrote every song on the CD, but one, the George Gershwin classic, “Summertime." “True to Myself" is filled with emotion; songs written from complete heartache, loneliness, tears and laughter. Taproot Radio said "Judy Wright has a song called, ‘Good Heart’ that would make Mary Gauthier cry, Rosanne Cash envious and Lucinda Williams worried”
Fresh off the successful run of her self-titled debut, Wright picks up the pace and hits the ground running with 14 brand new tracks. Check your local stations and visit www.judywright.com and www.myspace/judywrightmusic
Judy Wright has worked in many musical genres, but with her 2007 self-titled release, she found the freedom of the Americana format was a perfect match for her spectacular voice. Terms such as “sultry,” “hypnotic,” “sexy,” and “smoky” all fit, but still fall short of describing the effect of hearing her sing. Her latest release is appropriately titled True To Myself and represents a significant step forward for this extremely talented artist. Wright not only produced the album (with Bill Warner), she wrote or co-wrote every song except for the classic “Summertime,” which receives a treatment that would make George Gershwin proud. Many of the songs are introspective and even sad (such as “I Just Need To Be Sad”) but the overall effect is soulful and uplifting. Play this disc for friends and you’re sure to be asked “Who is that singer?” If there is any justice in the music business, it won’t be long before Judy Wright is a household name.
