Drawing from my enjoyment of Robert Jordan's "Wheel of Time" epic series, this song evokes life at sea aboard an Atha'an Miere, Seafolk ship. The ocean sounds were recorded on the North Shore of Hawai'i in Winter of 2002. The melody is simple, and yearning, just like sailors throughout history since the Phoenicians and Polynesians have been and who first ventured into the deep blue ocean craving either or both adventure and freedom.
These characters and their ships were some of my favorite characters since I spent many years myself living abroad on an aircraft carrier during my stint with the U.S. Navy. Very few people apart from merchant mariners, sailors, and marines get to experience the fury of winter storms in the North Atlantic or the wake of hurricanes in the Caribbean during tropical storm seasons. Having lived through both, and witnessed the cold, still calm of a full moon night in the North Atlantic during winter, or the glass clear aqua marine of the Adriatic, the Sea Folk were another special plot device that spawned a need for some musical iteration for the mental screenplay of this book.
