"With just her voice and an acoustic guitar, Jones is able to sustain interest, proving it's the spaces in between the notes that really matter."
-The Daily Breeze, Los Angeles
Los Angeles singer/songwriter Julene Jones comes from an eclectic background. Born in Japan under mysterious circumstances, she was adopted by a military family and lived around the world extensively throughout her formative years. Her travails all over the globe honed Jones' power of observation and interpretation.
Jones bought her first guitar in Paracho, Mexico for twenty dollars. Her teachers were the local septuagenarians who instructed her in the glorious forms of the Mexican ballad. When Jones returned to the United States, she played with various groups including Superball and Bound. All of these experiences polished Jones as a confident and articulate performer. Armed with an arsenal of self-penned tunes, she set out as a solo artist.
On her current album, Film Noir, Jones raises the bar for the indie female singer/songwriter. Accompanied by her acoustic guitar, Jones' poignant lyrics are rendered liquid smooth and emotionally connected by her crystalline voice. Slightly reminiscent of Natalie Merchant and Sarah McLachlan, Jones carves out a style all her own by effortlessly juxtaposing sensitive ballads of personal loss in songs like "Saw You Yesterday" with the hopeful optimism of "Dandelion", against the acute social satire of "Player".
Jones plays regularly in venues around Los Angeles where she has a devoted following.

Julene Jones is a godsend!
author: Owen Leary
This is a phenomenol record, the way the whole thing holds together. It's lightning in a bottle, is what it is. The standout tracks for me are "Film Noir", "Lucky", "No Cigar" and "Bombshell". But again, the album stands together so well as a whole that I hesitate to single out individual pieces... Julene brings together a wonderful mesh of guitar prowess, melody, vocal expressiveness, and most of all, her incisive, heart-wrenching lyrics. Not only that, she's totally frickin' beautiful, as you'll see when you buy the CD and check out the album art. So, what will Julene do next? I can't wait. Meanwhile, buy this record immediately. What a godsend this woman is!
