Album Notes

The JULIA MARVEL rock group was formed in Brooklyn, NY, USA in October of 2004.

Initially assembled as a backing band for singer-guitarist DAVE WESTON, former front man of '90s pop-punk heroes Weston, the combo quickly blossomed into a full-fledged collaborative unit / creative colossus. The resulting band, quickly named JULIA MARVEL, found Weston eschewing a freshly finished solo record to front this new act, alongside friends HANS GUTKNECHT (drums), MARTIN NIENSTEDT (guitar) and JENS CARSTENSEN (bass).

With an unusual sense of urgency, "the Marv" completed eleven originals over the course of the next two months. It was an unusually sunny day when the band convened at a friend's loft on Thanksgiving Day 2005 (the band's families understood) for a furious, inspired five hour recording session. This material captured on this day comprises JULIA MARVEL's debut, The Turkey Sessions, on the fledgling Zza Records imprint.

After the February 2005 release party for The Turkey Sessions (complete with dancers in whale costumes), JULIA MARVEL has played New York and Brooklyn extensively to both support their debut, and finely hone the subsequent deluge of new material. Work on JULIA MARVEL's next full-length, On the Horn, is set to commence in October 2005.

JULIA MARVEL spends its off-hours eating plain pizza, trying on shirts and talking about Cheap Trick.

I've been waiting for another Weston album for 4 years, and here it is... basically. This is Dave Weston rocking out in his familiar style...which is closer to the earlier Weston releases. But I don't mean to get caught up in Weston... this is Julia Marvel... and they hold up on thier own wonderfully. The production is a little raw, but the energy is there. It's great to hear Dave's songs again. Recomended.
