Album Notes

Bassist and composer Dr. Julian F. Thayer studied music composition at Berklee College of Music, and music and psychology at Indiana University. Dr. Thayer received his Ph.D. from New York University in psychophysiology. Dr. Thayer has held faculty positions at Penn State University, the University of Missouri, and was the Chief of the Emotions and Quantitative Psychophysiology Section of the National Institute on Aging until being appointed the Ohio Eminent Scholar Professor in Health Psychology at the Ohio State University in January 2006. He has also been a visiting professor at the University of Bergen in Norway and a Research Fellow in Residence at the STUDIO for Creative Inquiry at Carnegie Mellon University. He has published over 140 research papers and book chapters. His research on music has been featured in the Wall Street Journal and Psychology Today. Dr. Thayer has received research awards from Sigma Xi and the American Psychosomatic Society, and he is a member of the Academy of Behavioral Medicine Research. He has also received a Fulbright Fellowship to conduct research on emotion in Norway. He is on the editorial board of Psychosomatic Medicine and is a member of the Executive Board of the Rocky Mountain Bioengineering Symposium. Dr. Thayer has performed extensively throughout the United States and Europe including performances with Charlie Mariano, John Hicks, Terrell Stafford, Carter Jefferson, Vernon Reid, Paul Steven Ray, Pheeroan akLaff, Scott Robinson, Klaus Suonsaari, Cyro Baptiste, Douglas Bown, Buck Hill, Michael Weiss, Jim Beard, Eldar Djangirov, and Jimmy Cobb. He has recorded with Charlie Mariano, Geri Allen, Pheeroan akLaff, Paul Steven Ray, Scott Robinson, Frank Carlberg, Eli Fountain, Jarmo Savolainen, and Klaus Suonsaari.
