Album Notes

With the release of his debut CD, "Emergence", saxophonist/composer Julian Meyers is inviting listeners to move to the next level of his jazz odyssey.

After more than 10 years as a sideman and leader of several successful jazz ensembles, Meyers is ready to broaden his following.

Meyers pays tribute to jazz greats such as the late Joe Henderson, on "Emergence" with an original composition entitled, "Farewell to Joe," and also shows his own jazz voice with five other original compositions on the CD.

"Emergence" features other prominent musicians such as: Bob Cunningham, Ed Stoute, Antonio Jacobs, a.k.a. Black Lieder, John Dooley, Kenny Austin, Walter "Baby Sweets" Perkins, Weldon Irvine, and bassist Thomas Ware Gooding (the even more talented brother of Cuba).

As a leader of several jazz ensembles, including the current Julian Meyers Quartet, this saxophonist and educator has headlined at many of New York City's best known jazz clubs including Triad, the world famous Birdland, Windows Over Harlem and Mo Bay.

Meyers, a native New Yorker, has performed with numerous renowned musicians including Michael Raye, Valerie Capers, Sweet Georgia Brown and Dizzy Gillespie. In addition, Meyers has had the opportunity to record with pianist Charles Carrington, and superstar Korean musicians Hahn Dae Soo and Woo Chang Lee, and Gang Starr's Guru.

Meyers is a graduate of Mannes College of Music in New York City, where he received his bachelor's degree in Jazz and Commercial Music. He continues to break new ground as a music educator in New York City's public school system.

The sound of Meyers' saxophone can shift gears from the spiritual to the sensual to the experimental. "Emergence" is the first step in a jazz odyssey for Meyers. Accept his invitation and come along on the journey. Stay tuned, there's much more to come.

I thoroughly enjoy this cd! Not many people can tackle "In a Sentimental Mood" and make it an original, not just a cover. Julian adds his own style and finesse to every song and I particularly am fond of "Love Grows" and "Moment of Reflection". I truly look forward to more music in the future. For true jazz lovers, this cd is a must-have!

Hi Mr. Meyers Just a quick note to let you know how much Timothy and I love your CD. I have to ask the Timster to borrow it when I want to listen. He keeps it in his discman up on his top bunk and often falls asleep with it playing. Thank you. It is a nice treat to have and especially to have a 2nd grader "into" jazz!
