JULIANNE RICHARDS:
Julianne Richards started out her musical journey at the age of seventeen as the guitarist for the hard-core punk band Snatch in Atlanta, Georgia. After two 7inch records and a CD, she began playing with other local bands, while not touring with Snatch to support their record. They spent much of their time on the road and opened for Hole, Babes in Toyland, Bikini Kill, and toured with many of the bands in the era of the time labeled “grunge.” Some of these tours were with the once infamous Alice Donut, the Dwarves, and even Gwar. These were just some of the bands they spent time on the road opening for...
After several years on independent labels and sleeping on floors across the country, she began to spend time writing her own songs and getting into the studio to record as much as possible. During this time, she began setting up a small home studio, starting out with just a basic 4-track and microphone.
This eventually led her to leaving Snatch, and in an effort to grow some more musically, she left Atlanta for New York. She began listening to jazz, and swapped her Les Paul and Marshall amp for an acoustic guitar and a new eclectic sound. She wrote over thirty songs her first year in NYC, thus beginning her journey as a singer/songwriter. She did many solo acoustic sets at the local Sidewalk Café leading her to work with local producer/guitarist and close friend, Jimi Zhivago. She put a band together consisting of an upright bass player, a drummer /percussionist, guitarist, and herself. They played out consistently for the first year while she recorded a six song EP. Geffen Records picked her up shortly after the release of the EP.
Her last recorded full-length album was with Geffen Records. It was not officially released, and so she began re-thinking the major label route, in so far as getting out a completed record. She re-released the EP, and is thinking about releasing the songs from the unreleased Geffen album titled: “the Falcon of Manhattan.”
As for the present, she has a whole new batch of songs, and a few more to record to complete an entire record. Several of the songs previously recorded are being used for the former television show “Felicity” and on the Fox network show, “the Shield.” She has signed with the Licensing Company “Sugaroo,” which has a whole catalog of her songs to hear as well as information on obtaining them for use in movies, etc. If interested, just go to: www.sugaroo.com and simply look up her name.
She also has her own website at: http://juliannemusic.com/hostbaby/
