Julian Shome is a talented singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer from the UK. His story is one of total commitment and drive and a passionate belief in his music.
When you hear that Julian Shome was born in West Germany to Singaporean parents, you might be forgiven for thinking his musical influences would lie farther east.
In fact, Julian’s father was in the British Army and his parents’ record collection was full of The Beatles, and The Beach Boys.
Playing guitar from an early age, Julian started songwriting in his teens following his father’s last army posting to Colchester in Essex. His early performances included one at the Colchester Labour club.
Julian continued songwriting and gigging around Essex and Suffolk including one marathon college gig for Comic Relief, going on stage at 1.30am to a bar full of drunken students.
After a move to London in 2000, Julian began concentrating more and more on his songwriting and soon, he had enough material for several albums.
In 2004 he took the brave decision to sell his London flat to finance the production of his debut album. He left London with a digital multitrack recorder and a guitar and headed west over the Atlantic.
Landing in Vancouver, Canada, Julian completed ‘Glimpses’ his debut album with the help of musicians he met along the way. Continuing on down to San Francisco and Los Angeles, he also began recording tracks for the follow-up album, which was completed in Vancouver earlier this year.
