Album Notes

"Cover to Cover" came into being after many of my fans kept saying, “When are you going to record some of our favorite covers that we like to hear you play?” So with this new release, in addition to my original music, I have included a few favorites.

Originally, I titled this album using the word “covers” simply because I was recording songs by other people, and I thought I was being very clever, using pictures of myself on both sides, the front and back “cover” of me. But I finally came to realize that the metaphor is apt: this is me from one side to the other. For years I felt that the worlds of covers and originals were separate. Covers are what you do for money; originals are what you do for art. The two were always at war, and I felt like I had to choose between worlds. What I have finally realized is that “covers” are who and what spoke to me, still speak to me, and what made me the artist I am. They are what drew me to write my own music, so that I could express myself the way others I admired did.

There's a little blues, a little rock, a little folk, and, of course, a little melancholy. These songs are me...from cover to cover.
