In just a year and a half since her first CD was released ("Clear", 2003), Wyers' music is quickly rising in the national folk/pop community. Songs from "Clear" earned finalist awards and invitations to perform at 6 national songwriting competitions that summer, including Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Kerrville Folk Festival, Rocky Mt. Folks Festival, and more. Invited to perform at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, a few months later, Wyers played a show there on the first night of her first tour.

In performance, Juliet is charismatic and fills the stage with her smart and sweet, funny and chatty persona. Subtly literate, her songs ring with melodies that reflect the words' meanings and hop with rhythmic life -- raised on soul music/funk, 1960's folk, and Broadway musicals, what would you expect? Wyers winds science and spirit together in pieces about honeybees, subliming (in chemistry, going directly from solid to gas), and a metal detector man, then puts her guitar down to breathe and belt out a flirtatious, silly cover song, or lead a sing-a-long that came in a dream. Wyers grew up in the Pacific Northwest, in a log house in the forest and an Old Portland home, with activist parents who heated with wood, baked bread weekly and kept a big garden. She was a highly practiced walkman-singer before she risked solo performance.

    The title track is like a slow sip of wine. It's very warm and beautiful and to be savored. The soulful "Help Me Understand" is wonderful. The whole CD really shines.     There is a pixy-ish quality to Juliet's writing, the best example of which is her "Life -- Love Me." Other standouts include "Clear," "Gogo Boots" and "Bully on a Bad Day." These songs, and the others on the album, reveal Juliet's strong writing abilities. One can only listen and marvel, as the songs seem as if they should have come from an older and more experienced writer. Juliet is accompanied by guitar, percussion, tin whistle, piano, bass, hot fudge dispenser, accordion, and other instruments as appropriate. "Clear" is a tightly recorded album with enough support to make it interesting while not so much as to detract from the songs. Juliet Wyers has proved once again that intelligence, patience, determination, sense of humor and sense of community can go a long way to make a neophyte into a truly professional musician. Well done. Recommended.

    After listening to Clear, it's so hard to believe that she's only been writing and performing for the last three years. Juliet’s music can turn any gray day bright. Wyers calls her music holy science acousto-pop. Okay. To me, it’s just plain cool. I had the pleasure to watch her perform a couple of her songs at the recent Folk Alliance Festival in Nashville, and she’s just as much fun to watch as she is to listen to. Full of life, hope, inspiration, dreams, attitudes and everything in between, Juliet has a unique way of looking at it all and then presenting it with energy, passion, and contagious enthusiasm. Songs like “GoGo Boots,” “Bully On A Bad Day,” and “Metal Detector Man” .... My favorite? “First Hot Day,” a cute ditty about, you guessed it, the first hot day of summer. Too cool!
