notes
Julie Wolf is a multi-instrumentalist and singer who, besides making music of her own, has established herself as a sensitive, eclectic, collaborative, first-call side player. She has performed and/or recorded with luminaries in the jazz, folk, funk and rock/pop worlds, including Ani DiFranco (4 1/2 years as DiFranco's keyboardist), Maceo Parker, Bruce Cockburn (Julie is currently on tour with Cockburn), Dar Williams, Catie Curtis, Kris Delmhorst, Laura Love, jazz singer Rhiannon, and many others. She's brought her memorably simple, pure musicality to stages across the world, as well as to a growing number of critically acclaimed recordings. Preceding the globe trotting touring and recording that has kept her busy for the last decade, Wolf had a seasoned jazz life, having been part of Seattle's jazz community since the mid 1980's . There, she collaborated with Wayne Horvitz, Robin Holcomb, Bill Frisell, Ralph Towner, Julian Priester, Jay Clayton, Jerry Grannelli and others. Her live gigs and recording dates have taken her all over North America, Europe, Japan, Australia and New Zealand.
On Walk the Worn Out Floor, Wolf is stepping forward with something very spare, compelling and intimate. With songs ranging from jazz standards, to originals by Wolf and other Seattle jazz musicians, to blues and a few singer songwriter tunes, Julie brings the simple beauty of her piano playing and singing to the foreground. She is joined by some friends here and there, who truly compliment the intimacy that Wolf creates on her own in the opening tracks. (Hans Teuber on saxophone and f lute, Jami Sieber on electric cello and vocals, her twin sister Kate on vocals, and Laura Love on vocals.) Refreshing
author: Bill ElliottI saw Julie on the Bruce Cockburn tour and was impressed by her virtuosity. I expected a competent CD but received much more than mere stellar musicianship etc. The music is simply produced but oh so present and complete. Julie's song choices and her brilliant interpretations make for a very complete and beautiful listening experience. A must have.
The music washes over me and is pure and graceful.
author: PaulI first heard Julie backing up my personal favorite (and fellow Canadian) musician icon and Julie's pure graceful voice shone right through and melded with everyone on stage and made each song sparkle. On this CD, her graceful voice, playing and beautiful demeanor shines right through the speakers to my ears. Get this CD and listen carefully to Julie's work and after you've heard it a hundred times, contact her and demand more solo work from this lovely artist.
Why is this Julie Wolf's only solo recording? This CD transports you to a wonder
author: RogerWhy is this Julie Wolf's only solo recording? This CD transports you to a wonderful place. Overall it creates a feeling of time and space and all of those little things bouncing around in your head are suddenly of no consequence. She supports a velvet voice with an accompaniment that accentuates and understands both the mood and lyrical intent. This is a CD you put on when you need to talk to someone you don't know, but you wish you did - more please!
Julie is more amazing than i thought she was when i first heard her singing with
author: TaraJulie obviously has a mind blowing range of styles that she is capable of mastering. Honestly, I would like to hear more of her solo stuff. Julie is a beautiful babe on the inside and it shows on the out.
Supurb vocals
author: MeganThis cd showcases Julie's beautiful vocal ranges in addition to the blues sound that the piano accompanies so well, not to mention the beautiful lyrics. this cd is a must for any music lovers collection.

Exceptional
author: John SmithThe perfect compilation to forget about life's difficulties. Light a nice fire, open a good bottle of wine and lose yourself in musical excellence.
Pleasing!
author: Pepper Mcgowan/inky Midnight RecodsIt's very cool to find a female pianist/singer who deviates from the more lilithy wispy voice/angsty thing. This is a really welcome addition to my CD collection. It's mature without being inaccessible or dry, and very heartfelt at the same time.
Classy Music
author: Jonathan SwansonThis is very beautiful music that touches the soul. The music is relaxed and easy to listen to. Julie's singing is full of emotion and she has a style all her own. Her piano playing melodic and refined. I give this album 5 stars.
A subtle, quiet, collection of songs
author: Hugh H LovellThis is a collection of songs that needs a quiet mood to be appreciated. Given that, then the qualities of Julie's performance comes through. As a fan of Elvis Costello, I especially like her cover of "Baby Plays Around," a line from which gives the CD its title. If you want to see another side of this musician's talents (and wonderful person as well) check out an Ani DiFranco concert: Julie plays in her band.
