Album Notes

jump/cut covers a lot of sonic territory built on the electronica aesthetic while moving their vibe towards organic sound creation with vibrant effects and eclectic samples. their "organic electronica" melds a continuum spanning styles from drum n' bass, downtempo, breakbeat, ambient, dub, trip-hop and even modern jazz compositional ideas. the goal is to ignite live elements of electronica music that are usually lost in a robotic technical execution by creating interactive melodic atmospheres, deep oscillating bass lines and pulsating backbeat drums.

"jump/cut's soft and slightly experimental electronica starts with a jazz base mixed with more chilled beats and repetitive but compelling short note progressions ... constructed with ambient sensibilities punctuated dischordant interjections and way downtempo beats ... jump/cut's restrained but adventurous jazzbient, downbeated sounds are captivating and generate a mood that can be used for everything from relaxation to meditation to nighttime sexiness."

jump/cut transcends preconcieved notions of music
author: Miles
jump/cut's "The Alias Men" is a refreshing break, musically, from anything out there. jump/cut's music is not intended for action movies, or pop radio. This is music for after the party (when only your closest friends remain), or for simply relaxing with a member of the opposite sex. And this is music you listen to on the way home from the concert. The slow tempos resound (jump/cut are a band that makes you want to dance), and the uptempo grooves blaze, but never get out of hand. The band simmers. Combining textures from drum n bass and trip hop music with ambient jazz and funk, the band sheds any of the mechanical constrictions of electronic music, yet retain the hypnotic element. The instrumentation and the arrangements are creative (the vibes and trumpet really add to the sound). The group sounds like seasoned fusion musicians interpreting electronica, yet never proving to be musically smart-assed. There are no cliche or cheesy melodies on this album (nor ar there any stereotypical dancehall style rhythms). The band functions as a cohesive and fluid unit, and the groove is never interrupted. Personal favourites are "Augmented Reality" frantically grooving, with a bassline like Jaco Pastorius in 2005. The album closer, "Sleep Again" vamps on the catchiest, most positive sounding guitar riff ever, played clean and tight while the band builds and builds the intensity without ever losing their cool. Fans of electronic groove based music, or jazz and funk should love this album. And anyone else, owe it to themselves to check jump/cut out. I can't see anyone disliking this album.

Great electronica synthesis of "live" downtempo and ambient styles
author: Jesse Armstrong
The Alias Men proved extremely emotive with sublime swirls of ambient melodies and animated downtempo grooves. A great electro-organic jungle-jazz that is eminently playable.

Jumpcut seduces combining soft textures and trip hop music with ambient jazz and funk, hypnotic and sensual at the same time. This is 100% what we call "Retroespacial", music that can send you far away, to the deep space or maybe to the Gerry Anderson's moon base on the UFO's tv series . A "must" for those that what to create a special atmosphere.
