Album Notes

For that jazz cat lurking inside, try the following CD for some sophisticated purr-fection.

The five pros that compose the Jumpin' Chi-Chi's are a notable bunch: trumpeter/lead vocalist Reid McCoy; sax man Jim Spake; bassist Sam Shoup; keyboardist Tony Thomas, and drummer Tom Lonardo. It'd take a phone book, in fact, to list the sessions these locals have played on over the years.

But when it comes to simply cutting loose, they find collective fun as the Jumpin' Chi-Chi's, a jazzy quintet that, on its eponymous debut disc (self-released, ), aims to meet every Happy Hour mood. And that translates to a grab bag of self-penned, often ribald novelty numbers, from the jump blues of "322 Pearl Ave." (with its W. C. Fields-inspired lyrics) and Rufus Thomas-worthy funk in "Can't Get Down" to the Hawaiian-cast "Wicky Wacky" and a N'Awlins-meets-Bo Diddley vamp, "Let's Do Chi Chi." Virtuoso-delivered silliness has rarely sounded so good.

Rootin tootin fun

I really enjoyed the track on the end of that movie "tail to the cheif" I actually kept rewinding it back to the credits just to jam out on it over and over. "Down at the Monkey" is a bad ass tune that makes you just want to get up and move your can. Thanks guys for bringing that sound back. If you're ever in San Antonio, Tx. Please let me know I would love to see you guys LIVE... Thanks, Jammin Jay

The Jumpin' Chi-Chi's

This album is 100% great to listen to!! I do enjoy the ribald humor, too, however, it's the music that gets the rating here!!! You all remind of a great Canadian band, the Downchild Blues Band, only your jazz is livlier, kinda like the Blues Brothers' remakes of their songs. I hope there is a next album, and I hope I can find out where to buy a Jerk-seeking Missle!!!! FYI, we heard of you with "Down at the Monkey" that was played at the end of the movie whose name is escaping me right now :(

white cotton panties
author: Thomas J. Baker
as a jazzjock at u92 and the official president of the fanclub I enjoyed the music but most of all "white cotton panties" but, unfortunately it was banned there at U-92 for mentioning the word panties and rightfully so,. I mean it was embarassing when I got busted at the speak-easy with an actual copy of the cd in my trenchcoat by Federal Marshals. I pleaded guilty by means of insanity and the judge agreed. He asked me if I had repented of my wicked ways. I said of course
