  • Inspiration for a small-town Arkansas Girl
    author: Cornbread

The simplest description I can give for this cd: Inspiring. It's easy to feel alone when you're trying to fight the good fight in your small town, where everyone is thrilled about the new Wal-Mart Supercenter and can't understand why "this macchiato doesn't taste like the one I had at starbucks." Kudra is such an encouragement, reminding me that there are so many others believing in the power of art, poetry, music, and culture. The words and sounds of this cd help me to keep resisting the greed that fuels so much of our society. And it makes an excellent soundtrack to the cosmic film.

  • VERY GREAT, DEEP, AND POLITICAL. LOVE IT
    author: ANDREW ARNOLD

I REALLY ENJOY LISTENING TO THIS CD. ALFRED PUT A LOT OF THOUGHT INTO EVERY TRACK. REALLY LIKE HOW POLITICAL IT IS. IT'S AMAZING HOW FAST AND SMOOTH HE CAN FLOW. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.

The ALFRED HOWARD & THE K23 ORCHESTRA: Kudra CD I bought from CDBaby is great. We were fortunate to be able to attend Alfred Howard and The K23 Orchestra live performance in Truckee, CA Saturday July 3, 2004. We were introduced to Al and all his music makers. All very fine artists. And as a young old guy of 67 I appreciated the availability of the lyics to read and savor. My Honey's 23 year old son, Jon, especially liked the music and lyics of "PE". Al's poems without music were exceptionally fine. Thanks again a wonderful evening of hearing Alfred Howard and The K23 Orchestra. Being able to hear the songs on the CD was a wonderful preview to being able to enjoy the live perfromance. Thanks again.

  • relevent poetry set to beautiful music
    author: farhad.bahrami@nokia.com

The poems of Alfred Howard are relevent to the times we live in. His words flow like water as he analyses the current crisis (Bush's America), proclaims his loves for America, and pays hommage to his myriad influences (Hendrix, Hafiz, Miles, Zakir Hussein, Dylan, ..). Fortunately some pieces are recited without music, and other with. The music is loose with lots of good players and solos. The grooves are diverse, and all live (i.e. no drums machines). I like that. Perhaps I could hope for some world-music influences in the next release, since much of the poetry is in tune with what the world thinks of our times.
