Album Notes

Take six (6) extremely talented and experienced musicians; select fresh new songs that reflect powerful, moving lyrics set to contemporary Latin Pop Rock beats representative of numerous Latin cultures; put them with an internationally known, Grammy Award winning producer and recording engineer; and, you'll quickly discover why the group Ka-Chà is rapidly becoming the talk of the music industry.

Ka-chà converged to spearhead an explosive expansion to the booming market of Latin Pop Rock music. Cresting the wave of the future, these great musicians, each individually contributing their unique creative talents as recording artists and captivating live performers, have been brought together to reshape Latin Pop Rock as we know it. Expanding the boundaries of the rapidly growing Hispanic market, their music reaches across all borders, ready to ignite international recognition with a new and exciting vision.

The creative concept for Ka-chà sprang from the brilliant, imaginative mind of the legendary Glen Kolotkin. Glen, who was awarded a Grammy for Santana's "Supernatural" album, has spent the last thirty-five years recording a myriad of artists who have helped to change the course of music. In addition to recording nine albums with Carlos Santana, Glen's monumental contributions began with his working with artists such as Barbra Streisand, The Rolling Stones, Tito Puente, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Joan Jett, The Ramones and others who comprise a virtual "Who's Who" of Rock, Pop, Latin and Jazz genres. Enter the name "Glen Kolotkin" in any Internet search engine and watch what happens!

Along with the shear magnitude of the size of his recording history, you will be astounded
by the diversity of musical styles. The common elements Glen's projects all share is their
ground breaking creativity and their enormous commercial success.

The heartbeat of the band is Oscar Salas. Oscar, born in Cuba, has recorded and toured with many great artists including Jaco Pastorius and David Byrne. In addition to being a drummer, Oscar plays bass and keyboards. Above all, Oscar is a master percussionist - as authentic as can be.

Angel Curras, from Puerto Rican and Spanish ancestry, is an accomplished percussionist who has recorded and toured with many great artists such as Nestor Torres and Rosco Martinez. The amazing "plus" Angel brings along with his original songwriting and larger-than-life stage presence, is his sensual singing voice which rises and soars above the music, as he continues to play percussion. With a three octave range, singing in perfect English and Spanish, Angel takes his rich, sultry style which explodes into hot rhythmic vocal renditions that constantly thrill and surprise the audience.

Ildebran "LD" Sanchez rounds out this cookin' percussion section on the timbales. Born in Cuba, LD has performed and recorded with many ensembles using, different percussion instruments including instruments of the Middle East, Asia and South America - which add exotic colors to the music.

Marcelo Falconi was born in Ecuador. Devoted to music his whole life, he packed up his guitar, came to America and attended the Berklee School of Music in Boston, MA.. Marcelo's technical mastery of the guitar is nothing short of amazing, as are his songwriting skills. Very soon, guitarists around the world will wish they played like Marcelo Falconi.

Bassist Pier Pappalardo is from Paraguay. He met Marcelo at the Berklee School of Music. They share the same love of music, and when Pier graduated, he joined Ka-chà, bringing a good solid bass line, adding strength to the foundation.

Rounding out the group is Keyboard artist Kiki Sanchez. Born in Lima, Peru, he got his musical start with Coco Macedo and Edermi Chavez. His desire to further propel his musical career, led him to Miami, Florida, where he studied with such Jazz Piano greats : Jim Gasior, Mike Gerber, Mike Orta. He shares recording credits with Franklin Marcus, Arturo Sandoval, Israel "Cachao" Lopez, and Oriente (led by Eddie Barzola).

To help turn Glen Kolotkin's creative vision into a reality, he teamed up with Rabecca Boyko, an accomplished musician, composer, arranger, lyricist, conductor, producer, recording artist and proficient performer of multiple instruments. A graduate of the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY, Rabecca is largely responsible for musically implementing Glen's concept into Ka-chà's style. She has worked with stellar artists such as Dizzy Gillispie, Liza Minnelli, members of the Count Basie Band, Tito Puente, James Brown's horn section and N'Sync.

Ka-chà was recorded at the private studio of Tom Harney, a multi-talented engineer, musician, producer in his own right. From his studios in San Francisco to South Florida, Tom has worked with great artists such as Maria Mulduar, Pepe Alda, and Pablo Cruise.

All members of Ka-chà and it's production company, GTR Productions, share the same vision - to record and perform great music without an over reliance on technology for digital "fix ups." No loops, samples, auto-tuning or back tracks go with this band. Each rendition is real and authentic.

Curras, Kolotkin, strong musicianship and a Latin feel make this a must have CD
author:
Ka-cha, a CD assembled by star veteran Producer-Engineer Glen Kolotkin, is a very poweful CD. Lead singer Angel Curras has a compelling and unique voice with a wide scope of emotion and vocal range. The songs flow well from tune to tune and contributions of all the performers are professional and excellent. The recording is straight ahead and contains few or no gadgets or gimmicks, just strong production and engineering values. Although there is a strong similarity between Glen Kolotkin’s former major artist, Santana, and Ka-cha, this production shows the broad influences of the music of Latin America and Africa, and sets its own standards. Jumbaye starts free form with a percussion intro leading into a section of chorus, then to the commanding performance of Angel Curras. Soledad features an arrangement which maximizes the instrumentation of Ka-cha, and a well-balanced recording that captures the feel of the Ka-cha. Pa’lante is a dance piece with a fat sound. Suave shows off the vocal range and talents of Angel. Gotcha is just a very good song and a great closer. Listen to the CD baby samples, then buy and enjoy the CD.

Sounds like Santana - BUT how about finding their own sound
author: Lourdes Rodriguez
I do like the CD and recognize that each musician is extremely talented. I truly believe they and the group have a lot to offer. However, this review is more about the producer. Congratulations on your success with Santana - I must question though why you seem to be so reluctant to break yourself out of that mold. Now that I have the Ka-Cha CD etched in my mind, every time I think I hear them playing from the IPOD, turns out its Santana. As constructive criticism Mr. Kolotkin - I think you are doing the band an injustice by not encouraging them to find their own sound and their own passion instead of producing their sound to be so much like that of Santana. Once you break out of your time warp, and help them find their niche, I strongly believe you will have a hit CD!!!

Excellent ! We needed this !
author: Fernando Lopez
A great vintage sound, but with renewed enthusiasm and rhythm, these extremely talented musicians offer up a tasty concoction of latin rock/jazz/blues with sultry fat guitar licks, master percussion sessions and vintage keyboards. Great music, this should definitely be played on the airwaves. Now I wish they did a video !
