notes
New England native Kacy Crowley has got some battle scars. From cancer to drug addiction to the music industry, Kacy has proved herself to be the definition of a survivor. Her songs are both fiercly unapologetic and bravely tender, a combination of poetic insight and simple observation that has won over the hearts of fans from Sweden to Saskatoon.
Kacy blew onto the radar in 1997 after Atlantic Records released her first independent recording "Anchorless". With critical praise jammed in her back pocket from publications like Billboard, Time, USA today and Vanity Fair she toured the US and into Canada, joined the Lilith Fair, played the H.O.R.D.E. festival, opened for acts such as Chantal Kreviazuk and Marc Cohn and participated in Neil young's Bridge School Benefit with artists like Alanis Morrissette, Metallica and the Dave Matthews Band. Her songs were featured in the films Little Boy Blue, Anywhere But Here and Three to Tango, and found their way into various television programs. Kacy was also a guest at Miles Copeland's Castle, a prestigious songwriting retreat in France.
In 2000, Kacy recorded her second album for Atlantic Records, Boys in the Attic, with Fred Maher (Lou Reed, Matthew Sweet, Luna). The record was shelved by Atlantic, however, and soon after Kacy and the label parted ways.
"If my life were a movie it would be titled, Blessing in disguise, a study of understatements," kacy laughs, "getting dropped refocused me on what I love most about music... struggle and hope." She took a couple of years to write and refuel, study french and horseback ride, and record her third cd, Moodswing.
Produced by Jon Dee Graham (Patti Smith, Jon Doe, The Gourds) and released in 2003, Moodswing is an Austin favorite and was named #9 best album by the Austin American-Statesman. It's first single "Kind of Perfect" picked up the #3 award for best song and was also named #9 song of the year in KGSR's top 107 songs of 2003.
Her third release, "Tramps Like Us" is an introspective and disarming collection of eleven acoustic songs. Recorded with just a guitar and microphone, "Tramps Like Us" demonstrates that less is more.

Hard to say......I just like it!!!!
author: Dave CarnesShort and to the point.....I LIKE THIS CD! Go ahead and buy it!
hard, satisfying edge
author: SuzeA great, hard-edged CD! The music is catchy; the lyrics stick in my head, and the voice is wonderfully raw. Kacy can turn even the gentlest theme into something gritty enough to take seriously, as in "kind of perfect". She uses repetition to great effect too - e.g. "holding in the world" - instead of relying on it as filler, as so many pop songs do. Definitely recommended! I'm so glad I ran across this artist (in an audio tape bin for 25c, but that's another story)!
Real, Profound...the emotional type of sound you can't forget.
author: MommyfeetA Fantastic step from Anchorless -- Moodwing is truly moving. The emotional sounds just captivate you. One of my favorit CDS.
See her live
author: Tom DanielsIf you get the chance to see Kacy live, do it. She does a gig with Trish Murphy and Renee ____ every Thursday night at Ego's in Austin, "braless cowgirl night" where they sing and play in a braless way. Hey, if that's what it takes to get you in the door, so be it. The point is: GO.
just perfect
author: scott"Some Kind of Perfect" is just perfect. I cannot wait until Kacy comes to Dallas.
loved this CD--a great follow up to Anchorless
author: browserKacy's voice is hazy and addictive.Love "Kind Of Perfect". Played Anchorless over and over.Saw Kacy and her great band while they toured for Anchorless. She still has the same great Guitar player--Patrick Matera on Moodswings. Hope to see her tour again.
Great songs, great voice
author: Juergen / GermanyWhat should I write here in the review section that isn't said already? From the very first tone to the last, this record keeps you imprisoned and you feel sad, well and unbelievable good. Great producing by the great John Dee Graham. But the absolutely star is Kacy. Love it!

I love the CD. It's one that I can listen to over and over again. It just makes me happy. Something about her voice strikes chords insides of me. Was definately worth ever penny. I was hooked on Kacy when I first heard Hand to Mouthville on the Women & Songs Cd. I don't buy CD's very often and I'm proud to have this one in my collection.

I love this CD, I've been waiting for new Kacy stuff because I just love your voice. I first heard Kacy on Women and songs and got hooked. I can't wait for the next one, you go girl!
Great comeback cd from a wonderful artist!
author: tdI got hooked on Kacy after seeing her live back in '98. I had never heard of her, but was blown away by her performance. I immediately went out and got Anchorless, her debut, and enjoyed it immensely. Ever since, I've been waiting for more music from her. Well, the wait was worth it! Moodswing is a fantastic record, and a fitting follow up to Anchorless. It carries on in a simlar raw fashion, but with a tad more maturity. The songwriting is strong and the production is superb. Standouts on the cd include Church Organ, Traffic, and Kind of Perfect, among others. Thanks to Kacy for making this record...now we just need to get you back to Cincinnati for a show! I highly recommend this cd! td
Everyone needs just one listen
author: SA ManWhile this recording is qite raw, it lends a certain ambiance to the listening experience. I can't imagine listening to "Some kind of perfect" in an over produced recoring, the rawness of the track exposes the vulnerability of the artist. Why isn't this in everyone's CD player? It won't leave mine anytime soon.

great disc to drive or work to
author: Rik Camarillothis cd is a good mix of passion, pain, and emotion. Kacy has a talent for finding the right music to blend with her lyrics, and Moodswing is the perfect place for her to do just that. My favorite song on this disc is Kind of Perfect, because the lyrics found me in a place where I was. Wherever you are, this is one of the rare cd's that can help you understand why you're there, and help you deal with what you're feeling.
