KAFKA JONES


A Mexico City based artist, Daniel Gutierrez has been a member of two other projects: LA GUSANA CIEGA, a rock en español band with 4 studio releases and one live album, and COSMONOVA an alternative rock project with a mixture of songs in spanish and in english. But Daniel Gutierrez´s first chords were inspired by Bob Dylan, Cat Stevens, Jim Croce and Neil Young. Living in mexico, it was hard to find a crowd that would gladly listen to covers of theese artists and by 1990 he put his acustic aside to form LA GUSANA CIEGA. This band grew in popularity, got a recording deal with UNIVERSAL MUSIC and is now currently active, releasing records and touring Mexico and the US.
In August of 2000, inspired by ELLIOT SMITH´S XO, he composed and recorded 5 tracks for his girlfriend as a birthday gift. A year later, he recorded 4 more songs and once again put the project aside. This year (2007) , while producing a mexican rock duo YOKOZUNA and preparing to give birth to a small record label to release this and other productions, Daniel Gutierrez decided to give this project a name . KAFKA JONES , based on his favorit author and an almost anonimous last name, he opened a myspace(myspace.com/kafkajones) and prepared things for the release of TEN MINUS ONE. A very personal project finally exposed. Based on acustic guitar and embelished with erie synth sounds, nine songs written for one person and spanning the first feelings of love and then as relationships mature, the way to deal with loving a person and dealing with really getting to know them.
His first show was a concert in mexico city as suporting act for BRIGHT EYES where he had great reviews . Together with the new label NARANJADA RECORDS, KAFKA JONES will be promoting in Mexico and hopefully in the US.
