Album Notes

Born in Columbus Ohio, Brian Kahanek grew up nearby on an 80-acre farm full of corn and alfalfa fields where they bred beautiful Arabian horses and sold the yearly harvest. Helping his dad work the farm, feeding the horses, and listening to music of all genres were part the daily life. When Brian was 10, the Kahanek clan moved to his father’s birthplace of San Antonio Texas, a hotbed of Texas style blues. It was here that a family friend got Brian his first guitar, a $100 acoustic from Ruston's Western Wear store on the outskirts of the city. Even with strings so high that you could shoot arrows with them, he was hooked and never looked back. Fast forward to age 15… Brian was knee deep in The Police, AC/DC, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Led Zeppelin, Ozzy Osborne, George Lynch, Black Sabbath, ZZ Top and Jimi Hendrix to name a few. Cutting his teeth by playing every chance he got, Brian graduated High School and left home to study music at The University of North Texas in Denton. What he didn’t realize was that he would be playing more sessions and gigs than attending classes. With the lure of his own artistic vision at heart and a choice to make, he left his studies at the university for a very different school, the life of the touring musician and the pursuit of his identity as an artist. Honing his skills as a guitarist and singer, Brian worked the Texas club circuit for 6 years winning over regional critics and fans. Finally in 1998 he gave in to his childhood dream and moved to California, the land where everything is possible. It is in LA that he really set out to change things, but in reality things would change him. The City of Angels is where he found his own voice going against the superficial grain, and in 2001 Brian embraced his muse and dove in headfirst. In 2004 Brian released the underground hit “Real Life” “Gemini”, an instrumental track from “Real Life”, appears in a coveted position within the hottest video game of the year “Guitar Hero II” This sophmore release "Suicide King" is the next giant leap for an artist that has firmly come into his own. Brian, Sam and Dustin give it all and hold nothing back on this searing statement about finding that spark in the darkest places to carry on. This is music not to be missed. But wait… that’s not all!!!! Brian has recorded guitars and mixed for some of music's top artists including Tim Mcgraw, RBD (Rebels) – (the number one selling record in Latin America last year), Betzi - Virgin recording artist, Walt Disney Pictures, Warner Bros pictures... In fact Brian’s guitar work is featured on the number one single and record in the Latin American market last year '06 “Save Me” from RBD's (Rebels) debut. These sessions are just to name a few as he is the behind the scenes real talent that puts that finishing touch on much of today’s music. And yep you guess it there’s more !!!! Brian has mixed and mastered some of the same artists above while working on feature film as an ADR recordist and mixer. Brian’s film and video game credits include ... Pixar's Finding Nemo and The Incredibles, Peter Jackson's King Kong, Hayao Miyazaki’s Howl's Moving Castle and Proco Roso .. and these are just a few. Brian’s future as an artist and producer is as bright as can be imagined…. With his boundless energy and talent mixed with the most amazing fans… the sky is the limit.

Amazing.

This album came to me just today in the mail. I've been listening to it near non-stop since. Brian Kahanek's music is just... it's like some of the older ones, yet his own brand. He's destined to be one of the Greats.

Gemini was the track that caught my attention for Brian and his band. After picking up this latest album I'm simply falling in love with their music. This blend of catchy rock, rooted heavily in the blues, should simply not be missed.

The next-generation of Blues rock legends...

What an amazing album... The production is first class and with a hint of grit in there to remind ya that the blues exist in a very real way. Brian's guitar playing is a unique blend of Hendrix meets Bloomfield with a amazing songwriting sensibility included. The tunes are focused, but develop at their own pace like a great blues/rock album should. The music is non-pretentious as well leaving you feeling like you would not only listen to this again and again, but that you would want to have a beer with the guy as well. For my money, all of the over-hyped Mayer's and Bonamossa's can't hold a pentatonic scale to the relaxed but thoroughly rocking pace of "Suicide King'. Highly recommended... 5 out of 5 stars.

This CD is incredible. And I found out by finally reading the credits that Brian and his band self produced this. I can't even imagine what's next. Do yourself a favor and take the plunge cause it's as good as it gets.
