Album Notes

Twenty new recordings of previously issued songs that are hard to get include “First Time at a War” the plight of a young disabled soldier and “Tarpaper Shacks,” why a miner’s heaven would be better than life on earth.

Produced by Jesse Kahn and Pieter Groenveld, Si Kahn is joined by the superb harmonies of European Rounder recording artists Ygdrassil, Annemarieke Coenders & Linde Nijland. Thanksgiving is Si Kahn’s fifteenth CD.

Title song “Thanksgiving” sets the tone of fighting back while appreciating what we have. “Who’s Watching the Man” takes on the privacy intrusions of the Patriot Act. “Sixteen” a celebration of passion even after 50, “Rack ‘Em Up Eddie” captures the pool hall as a shield against deep personal loss, while “Government on Horseback” humorously uses the old Hollywood Western to laugh and exposes the old Reagan and the new Bush.

Thanksgiving is a companion to
In My Heart, (SCR-33), also a retrospective of many of Si Kahn’s best and most covered songs: “Aragon Mill”, “Wild Rose of the Mountain”, “People Like You” and “Lady of the Harbor.” We’re Still Here (SCR-57) released in celebration of Si’s 60th birthday in 2004 contains songs not recorded anywhere else including the power anti-war “When the War is Done” and “The Gap” , a funny but true telling of income disparity. On this recording, Si was joined by Liz Meyer on harmony vocals, and Joost van Es on violin.
