The Songs of Vasistha are a journey of sound and awareness. Some songs are contemplative and some really rock as the CD explores timeless consciousness. Although unlike ambient new age music, the Songs of Vasistha can bring the listener into the moment. They are great for meditation or house cleaning, and the last several songs are a portal for dissolving into infinite consciousness, meditative awareness, or sleep.
The "Songs of Vasistha" were inspired by the teachings and stories of Vasistha's Yoga, an ancient Sanskrit text that is described as the earliest work with the highest wisdom of Vedanta, or Jnana yoga. It is the instruction of the Sage Vasistha to Sri Rama as recorded by the poet Valmiki and translated by Swami Venkatesananda. In more recent times, this wisdom has been lived by Ramana Maharshi, J. Krishnamurti, and Sri Nisargadatta. Adyashanti is an extraordinary contemporary teacher in this tradition.
Kaivaly is a transliteration of a Sanskrit word for absolute freedom. Creating this music has been an absolute joy for the band; with songwriter Mary Scott on vocals and acoustic guitar, Charlie Tucker on lead guitar and bass and Peter Ragan on percussion.

The words and melodies are a great marriage.

The words suit the music wonderfully on this CD and Mary's voice ties it all together. I'm hoping for more...

A wonderful listen - thoughtful and snappy!

I know nothing about yogis or philosophy, but I sure enjoyed this CD. There's a great mix in this collection - toe tapping tunes (like the first cut) mixed with contempletive melodies and lyrics. And there's some very nice guitar work too. The best is Mary Scott's voice - smooth as silk.
