Album Notes

One of the most important Greek composers of his generation in the field of electroacoustic music.
Ioannis Kalantzis was born in Chalkida, the capital of the Greek island Evoia.
He obtained a diploma of classical guitar with Evangelos Asimakopoulos at the National Conservatory of Athens.
He studied music theory and composition with Yannis Ioannidis at Nakas Conservatory and electroacoustic music with Henri Kergomard in Athens.
He continued his studies of composition and computer music at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et Dance of Lyon, France with Philippe Manoury, Marco Stroppa and Dennis Lorrain.
He has also attended master classes with Phillipe Schoeller, Allain Gaussin, George Crumb, Klaus Hubert, Peter Eotvos, Gerard Grissey, Ivan Fedele, Michael Lévinas, Jonathan Harvey, Gilbert Amy, Michael Jarrell, Francois Bayle, David Wessel, and Miller Puckette.

He has received distinctions and prizes in contests as «CIMESP » (Sao Paulo, Brazil), « Papaioannou » (Athens Greece), « Pierre Schaeffer » (Pescara, Italy), and «Grame/EOC» (Lyon, France).

His work has been selected for the official concerts of the International Computer Music Conference ( ICMC'99 Beijing, China ), (ICMC 2001 Havana, Cuba), (ICMC 2003 Singapore), (ICMC 2005 Barcelona, Spain) (ICMC 2007 Copenhagen, Denmark) (ICMC 2010 NY, USA) .

His pieces has been performed worldwide in many other international events in Greece France, England, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium, Poland, Ukraine, S. Korea, Chile, Australia, and USA.

He had commissions from the Athens Concert Hall, the National Centre of Music Creation of France (Grame) and the Ministry of Culture of France.
He is founding member of the Hellenic Electroacoustic Music Composers Association (HELMCA).
His work has been released on CDs by UNESP/FASM (Brazil) and PeP/CEC (Canada).

His music explores the realisation of sound organisms, which lead across their movements and their unusual logic to a particular type of energy.
