Album Notes

KALINKA, a tasty, bright berry which grows on a snow-covered bush in northern Russia toward Siberia and the Arctic Circle, is also the name of the excellent Russian musical duo performing on this CD! Consisting of expertly played Russian balalaika and bayan (accordian), Kalinka will charm your heart with beautiful old world instrumental melodies and songs.

This CD contains romantic Russian favorites as well as new compositions in the same style. Written descriptions of each song are in the CD booklet, telling the stories behind the music in a most entertaining way!

The balalaika is performed by one of the world's best players, Sergey Vaschenko. The bayan is performed by one of the world's best players also, Vladimir Kaliazine.

This CD was produced by 3-Grammy recording engineer and producer, Phil York, and co-produced by Kalinka. The CD was a Grammy Contender in 2003 in the Traditional World Music category!
