Easy Money

by Kally O'Mally

O'Mally's voice is full of personality; a classic country tone, combined with a dash of Courtney Love style attitude. Her delivery is very authentic, and she performs with total conviction. Opening with the title track “Easy Money” we are instantly introduced to O'Mally's raspy tone and natural delivery, with some double tracking for added effect. The track talks about travelling to Vegas in the hope of winning big. The optimistic nature of the song is refreshing, and it's got a great hook to boot with the “easy, easy money” lines really sticking in your head.

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
"Easy Money is the debut album from singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Kally O'Mally. O'Mally not only provides all of the vocals on Easy Money, but she also plays guitar, bass, horns and strings, as well as producing the record herself. It's not a completely DIY effort though, with Fred Nelson Jr. playing drums, Ken Burnett playing mandolin and acoustic guitar on “Stay Awhile” and Micah Crandall-Bear playing electric guitar on “Beside Me.” The record was engineered by Matt Erich at EME Studios in Sacramento, and together with O'Mally, they have captured and packaged her personality and the atmosphere of the record perfectly.

“Beside Me” changes the tone and has a more melancholy feel than “Easy Money.” The lyrics here are darker and showcase a different, more poetic side to O'Mally's song writing prowess: “I had my suspicion that you were a temporary man, I think it was the way you drew your distance in the sands.” O'Mally shows here that she is capable of writing and delivering a song with more emotional depth, which is a nice contrast to the opening track.

“Now That You're Gone” features some great harmonies, particularly in the chorus. Another track delivered with conviction, without gimmicks; some would say it's good old fashioned song writing. It's really how music should be: written from the heart and performed honestly.

O'Mally's Americana influences shine brightest in tracks like “Derailed,” “Texas Rain” and “Stay Awhile” which features many of country music's signature sounds. The song writing across the board is of a high standard; each track feels very personal to O'Mally, whether they're upbeat, reflective or serious – her personality and sincere delivery shine through across the entire record.

Standout tracks include “New Dawn” with its straightforward, honest lyrics and singable chorus, “California Heartland” and title track “Easy Money.”

As good as O'Mally sounds on record, this reviewer has a feeling that she is far better live as her personality will be given further opportunity to charm and delight her audience. If you're looking for a new spin on a classic Americana sound with a small dose of punk rock attitude thrown in, then O'Mally's your girl. - Ross Barber"

This particular project has something for everyone, people of all ages and musical tastes. It will take you through an interesting journey filled with a tapestry of catchy danceable tunes, slow jams, and rich anthems.
