Hey, you're gonna love the 4th CD because there are so many new, upbeat, hardest rock, "typical Leslie" songs that really are as likable as they are idiosyncratic. Take the ultra-catchy "Girl With Black Hair." It's this great storyteller song that mashes up the teen-pop angst with worldly overview, like some unholy spawn of Lavigne and Dylan. Awesome fun by a trio of great musicians who rock.
Leslie, the lead singer/guitarist/primary songwriter is an eccentric, flamboyant, gorgeous beauty who was once voted, by British Music press, "the 38th" best rock singer ever." That's ever rock singers of all time, male or female, everywhere, ever.
KANARY's Mary and Tony have been termed the best rhythm section in Los Angeles, duh, and can throttle it, kick it, pound it or stroke it 'til it purrs, depending on the song. "Poor Puppy Face" (bass propelled sleaze about a lovelorn suitor) and the somewhat alt-swing "Sez Who Sez Me," campare and contrast. Again, great fun to hear these weirdly wonderful hard rock songs done so expertly. Unless you prefer the Paris-in-the-spring-but-with-great-smelly-sex romantic balladry of "Him & Me."
So here's "KANARY-Only Dead Fish Go With The Current," eleven exciting tracks with only one (track 11) that can't be played within present FCC guidelines but will have you glad it's there anyway. Call Leslie for an interview: she's a natural extrovert who'll talk your ears off and you won't mind. Or all the band, there's a lot of back story to KANARY, and a heap of amazing, musical, crazy, hard rock wonderful tunes right here, right now.

author: ken lawrencefound Kanary while looking up the 1980s rock metal ladies Precious metal which Leslie fronted. Well after hearing 2 cuts from the newest, well Yeah! Yeah! and lots o Yeah get up and rock your ass off today!

author: MarkLHaving just received the cd in the mail and played it once, I have to say I am most impressed, From the opening track, on through the remake (which is how I found the album in the first place) to the last song. To sum up in a word I would say EXCELLENT. Now off to see what the others are like.

It’s the KANARY version of “Baby It’s You”, a hit from Leslie’s (and her brother Benny) old band called PROMISES from 1978, which was a huge hit in Germany. The other songs are good rock songs that show us a band, that has developed very well in the past few years. They have specialized in playing catchy songs with some rough edges here and there, but still with enough catchiness, so they can be played on the (inter)national radio. Leslie already knew, that she was able to write a good rock song with her band PRECIOUS METAL. But with KANARY she has matured her sound and it really shows in the albums she has done with this band so far. Leslie’s voice sounds a lot like BONNY TYLER. It’s raw and raspy and it fits very well to the songs of KANARY. I am glad that “Can’t Stop Crying” is only a short song, because this country like tearjerker is a bit too much for me. But with “Pity Party Fuck”, the band has recorded their most heavy song in their whole career. As you can see, there’s enough to enjoy for everybody on “Only Dead Fish Go With The Current”. By the way, I really liked the drawings of the lady skeleton with the mohawk on the CD booklet.
