If Swinghouse was a country, Louis Armstrong would be Mayor, Louis Prima would be the President and Count Basie most certainly would be King. That’s Swinghouse. Great vocals, blazing horns and a fabulous rhythm section. The music from this 6 piece ensemble combines the drive of jump blues n’ swing of the '40s and 50’s, with the hot soloing of jazz, from that special time before strict boundaries were drawn between jazz, blues and r&b. Playing a varied repertoire of both originals and standards that includes fun, sexy provocative lyrics, torchy ballads, lindy tempos, foxtrots, medium swings and even a raucous rumba or two. The music joyfully transports you back to era of Zoot Suits, Swinging Blues Clubs, Jive Cats and Sexy Pin-ups. Swinghouse led by vocalist and band leader Karen Neumann (USA) is one of Europe's fastest growing Swingbands. Since it’s formation in 2007 they have appeared at major festivals and clubs: The Delft Jazz Festival, Boogie & Blues Night, Blues Route Middelburg, Zaandam Jazz Festival, Zoetermeer Jazz Festival, Meer Jazz Hoofdorp, Jazz en Blues Ronde Steenwijk, De Otter, Café Baarends, Bluescafe Apeldoorn, De Gouveneur, De Nieuwe Doelen, Sgt. Pepper's, In Den Boekenkast, Café Ruimzicht, Wonders, and In a Jazz Tradition. Their music has been featured on the radio stations such Blue Haarlem, Dutch Coast Radio and the‘Fascinating Jazz’ program by Gerhard ten Hoopen where they were hailed as a 'band to watch'.

Karen Neumann & Swinghouse, "Jumpin, Swingin, Zoot Suit Jive"
author: Harm J. Linsen
This is the first CD of Karen Neumann & Swinghouse and with this record Karen and her band not only show their ability and their musical flexibility but that they owe a place among the greats of this musical genre as well.
Just listen to the bowed bass of Harm van Sleen on “Blue Drag” which is an absolute delight, or the unparralleled trumpet of Kees-Jan Hoogeboom throughout the record. Bart van Ballegooijen exceeds himself on saxophone in the slower songs. All this is supported by the solid work of Curro Noriega on guitar (listen to “St. Louis Blues” for instance) and the drums of Bernt Nellen.
Of course not to forget there’s Karen Neumann herself who’s skill is especially portrayed in the slower songs like the dixie “Red Shoes”, or my personal favourite “a Little Boy” which is pure jazz and makes chills run down your spine out of pure savour.
Apart from the allready mentioned songs in the above let me mention a few of my favourites on this CD. The sexy “Well Do It” or “Lonely Teardrops” which has a lot of zeal, “C’est la Vie” where the band shows they’re really at home in Americana and “Mr. Zootsuit” where you, when you close your eyes, find yourself in a hot club with shapes in a drape on the dancefloor.
The atmosphere this record breathes is simply hot!
If you like swing, blues, jump and R&B with a fresh approach than this is the record to buy!
