Karina Van Ron

It all began a winter afternoon in New York, U.S.A. when a 6 year old girl started to study piano next to her father, musician and composer.

After New York, and moving to Buenos Aires Argentina, she continues her studies, now professionally, for Piano, voice and guitar.

At the early age of 11, Karina Van Ron had already written her first song and performed a classical concert.

At the age of 13 she records sessions as a back up singer for Andrea del Boca, Facundo Cabral, El General, among others and releases her First solo CD singing Christmas songs.

Karina Van Ron starts her first band, Bad and Beautiful, at the age of 16, playing bass guitar and singing her songs for a different audience.

DISKETTES

A different approach, where she experiments with keyboard sequences, and continues as a bass player and singer.

With Diskettes she releases her Second CD "Full Contact", this time under EMI, produced by Cachorro Lopez. Released in Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Peru & Uruguay, countries where she also played live.

After the end of the Diskettes tour in Los Angeles, California, she decides to stay in Hollywood, forming LA based bands like La Dolce Hippie,Lingerie 4 lunch and Adore.

In this "Latin fever" era she conserves her incredible personality, with an Alternative/Pop sound, equally sweet, rebel and melancholic. Karina Van Ron sings in English, Spanish and French.

In the year 2000, she was recomended by Randy Jackson(A & R at MCA records at the time, currently with American Idol) to Barry Squire (A & R for Sony Columbia) for the HOLE bass position, and was Barry Squire's first choice among 500 bass players in the U.S.A. and Canada. Although K.V.R. never got to play with Courtney Love, they did meet at the Golden Globes on the red carpet a month later and exchanged business cards.

After waiting for almost a year and a half
Karina Van Ron, releases her Third CD, "Medicate me" in 2002. Produced by the talented guitarist and South American Rock star, Richard Coleman (Friccion-Soda Stereo-Los 7 Delfines).

Radio listeners have chosen her songs and CD to hit the N Alternative Charts, to # 13, and # 1, for the 24th consecutive week as of October 2002, in America.

As for Europe: K.V.R. was also added to Blue revolution World Music Charts during April 2003, in London, UK at number 18, with the song "Porque te vuelvo a ver?", that has a very Pretenders like sound.
It also had airplay in Malaga, Spain (The Southern Costa Azul)all throughout 2003.

Year 2004 has taken most of K.V.R's time in preparing for the upcoming release DECADENT DELIGHT as well as preparing her next DVD and live shows throughout Latin America.

REVIEWS

Excellent Rock Album!
author: bigbusterfromglynn
The opening track, sung in Spanish, has a driving rhythm like early Velvet Underground. This leads into another excellent song Do My Underwear, a fast rock song with a splash of Heavy Metal. Other highlights are a good cover of Nirvana's Heart Shaped Box, and a catchy little number Luna Camaleon. Pretenders and Siouxsie (& the Banshees) influences are sprinkled throughout this album, most noticeable on Positive Delivery. A Very enjoyable Rock Album, even if 5 of the songs are in Spanish, you don't really notice because the music just rocks on, and on, and on....

Interesting listening
author: Quiet1
An interesting mixture of both Spanish and English songs from an excellent performer. I don't understand half the lyrics (5 of the 9 tracks are in Spanish) but it doesn't matter at all - it's still enjoyable listening! ;-)
