Album Notes

From the time I was a small girl I would sing and pretend to play violin until I began studying at age 10. I never really thought about the fact that I was meant to be a musician until adulthood. I discovered my voice in high school when I tried out for my high school musical and got the lead! This, along with being accepted into a very competitive Youth Symphony, provided the foundation for becoming the performer I am today.

After college,I started playing violin in bands but grew tired of how limited the violin was to the kind of music I was doing. I bought a guitar while in college but didn't really learn to play it until a couple of years after. I wrote a song called "Adore", thought it was good and started playing open mics. The rest is history!. I released my debut album, Little Girl, in August 2007 to a sold out crowd at the Wealthy Theater in Grand Rapids, Michigan, played a dozen shows during my month-long tour of India and have just won two state-wide awards, Best New Local Artist as well as the coveted Album of the Year (WYCE Jammies)! My style is a jazz and R&B inspired folk, with hints of rock & roll and a genererous helping of soul.

I'm extremely proud of "Little Girl" and think you'll love it, too! My tunes span from rock, bluegrassy, latin jazz and good 'ole blues, all while remaining uniquely KARISA!
