Karl Jones is a Sedona, Arizona based singer songwriter from Dublin Ireland. He spends part of the year in Ireland where he rcords, performs and has apeared on Irish Television, (Late Late show, RTE) and radio.
His singing career began with Pueri Cantore's, (Italian for singing boys) a church choir from Ballinteer, Dublin that toured some of the finest Catherdrals in Ireland and Europe including an invitation to sing for Pope Jonh Paul II at the Vatican which was broadcast on International Television.
In the mid 1980's he was the front man for "Mixed up World". This U2 influenced rock group were interviewed on "Dublin City Radio" and performed all around Dublins hip "Temple Bar" music scene. His first solo collection of songs was released under the tittle HA! It was runner up to the effort of a Limerick band "The Cranberries" in a nationwide demo tape contest run by Irelands "Hot Press" magazine.
His first American concert debut was with his band "Skydancer" at George Washington University's Marvin Center. He was interviewed by NPR radio for the event and The Washington Post reviewed the concert writing "the sound is reminiscent of the more spiritual music of the 6o's... guitar layered harmonies and musical lines repeating into ethereal spirals...Anton Perkins from USA Today described his music as..."exciting, electric and wonderfully original".
Since childhood he embraced the influence and inspiration of artists like Christy Moore, The Pogues, Luke Kelly, The Dubliners, Van Morrison, The Chieftans and U2. With his 2007 release "Dublin Soul", a live solo appearance recorded at a show in Sedona, Karls music has come full circle.
He has returned to Ireland's rich story telling and ballad tradition to infuse his original work with elements of the traditional Jigs, reels and old drinking songs he heard in Dublin and Wexford growing up to create a uniquely Celtic sound.
Chris Fox Graham reviewed Dublin Soul for Sedona's Red Rock News writing "Powerfull sentiments in these songs about leaving home and coming to American... the Celtic influence in his guitar work dances with his expansive tenor voice and novel lyrics that you could easily imagine entertaining crowds in any Irish Pub, American bar or coffee house,,,".

Great Irish Music
author: Keith Newcomer
I was not sure what to expect, but loved the music and the singing of Karl Jones. He did a great introduction to some songs and sang the traditional songs very well. Great cover of Van Morrison's "Sweet Thing" which is a great song from Astral Weeks. This album was recorded live in Sedona, AZ. I highly recommend for Irish music fans (or fans of good acoustic music).
