Album Notes

KARNIS is my solo project (outside of my band SMYLIN JACK), with music leaning towards rock, funk, and fusion with an old school flavor. I'm a drummer of 30 years playing experience and I've come back into the world of music composition after a few years layoff. All KARNIS music is composed using ACID PRO 5. All songs are written, arranged and produced by Wayne Harrelson. All songs mixed and mastered at Enyaw County Studios in Frederick, Maryland. I've been playing drums since the age of 15, professionally since 18. I would describe my playing style as old school 4-on-the-floor big fat backbeat, steady as it gets, with a dash of funk on the side. My influences include Neal Peart, Dave Weckl, John Bonham, Jeff Beck, Jan Hammer, George Martin, Alan Parsons....and too many other great bands and musicians to name.

KARNIS music is various forms of rock, funk and fusion, sometimes with a twist, but always striving for that perfect groove regardless of the genre. I'm also dedicated to the art of 5.1 surround sound music. All KARNIS music is available in Windows Media Audio 5.1 surround sound for multichannel Media Center PCs and soon to be available on 5.1 CDs for DTS-capable sound systems and home theaters.

great sounding music.

Karnis is Wayne Harrelson’s experimental side project when not playing the drums with the gang from Smylin' Jack. Through this solo vehicle, he is able to play around with rhythms and different musical styles in search of the perfect groove. Harrelson, a resident of Frederick, Maryland, compiled his first Karnis album entitled Migraine Soup using Sony’s Acid Pro 5 software on his PC. He describes the 8 songs on the album as, “A collection of self-indulgent instrumentals in a variety of styles, all designed to stimulate unconscious rhythmic movement in the motor extremities.” And after listening to the album, I can say that he has created music that makes you want to move. Songs range from the electric dance buzz of “Bumpity Bump” to the down and dirty jazz-funk of “Dancing Duck” and Harrelson even throws the listener a curve with the inclusion of “Interlude in D#,” an old-timey acoustic piano saloon track to bring the album to a close. All the music on Migraine Soup is enhanced for optimal audio playback. Karnis is a prime example of how technology can carry music into the future. All you need is natural talent and the right equipment and you can make some great sounding music.
