Album Notes

The Kashi Kirtan chanting group has performed with their guru, Ma Jaya Sati Bhagavati, since 1975.

This is their first recording, made with the help and direction of Pandit Mukesh Desai, who is himself the leading disciple of Pandit Jasraj. The influence of these highly esteemed traditional Indian musicians has strengthened the Kashi Kirtan singers and made this recording an outstanding example of an ancient musical form updated for contemporary taste.

Ma Jaya Sati Bhagavati has been teaching almost daily for twenty-five years, all over the United States and abroad.
Wherever she goes, the Kashi Kirtan Chanters are there, setting the stage and establishing a space where Ma's teaching can best be heard.

Ma Jaya teaches that all spiritual paths lead to God. This Brooklyn-born guru entered spiritual life through an experience of Christ, and then went on to explore all world religions and evolve a path of interfaith inclusion and service to humanity.
She is also a master of kundalini yoga and the ancient tantric practices that lead to merging with God.

The home of Ma Jaya's teaching is Kashi Ashram in Florida. The many temples at Kashi Ashram are dedicated to Jesus Christ, Mary, the Jewish prophets, the Sikh Guru's, and Tibetan manifestations of Buddha, as well as to Hindu deities including Ganesh, Kali, Durga, Hanuman, Krishna and Shiva. Although all traditions are embraced at Kashi, day-to-day life has an Indian flavor, in honor of Ma's own guru, Neem Karolli Baba, and her teachers, who include Swami Nityananda of Ganeshpuri, Shirdi Sai Baba, and Ramana Maharshi.

A visit to www.kashi.org will take you to Kashi Ashram, or just sit back with this CD.

REVIEWS

Great for singing along and learning the chants.

I love this CD. I love to sing along and learn the various chants. I play it on my way to work and back again and often when I get home. So many of the Indian Chanting CD's are more about someone performing than the performers disappearing in the chant. This one is different.
