Kate Bennett's debut, "Over the Moon", was produced with elegant simplicity and an ear toward both folk and pop appeal. The album features Kenny Loggins, Jim Messina, and guitarist Jeff Pevar (David Crosby, Shawn Colvin, Jackson Browne, James Taylor, Ray Charles).
The 13 songs are infused with impressions of the mountains and ocean of Bennett's hometown of Santa Barbara. They are also rife with the things that can't be seen: the rapture and anguish of relationships, the joys and struggles of parenting, and the sensations of longing and belonging.
For several years, Bennett worked with notable producer & musician Jim Messina (Buffalo Springfield, Poco, and Loggins & Messina) as a member of his Songwriter's Performance Workshops. She was a regular performer in his "Songwriters in the Round" concerts where she played along side other songwriters such as 60's hit maker Jeff Barry, Poco's Paul Cotton, Toto's David Paich as well as Messina's former partner Kenny Loggins. Loggins also co-wrote one of the songs on her CD.
"Over the Moon" is currently receiving airplay in the United States, Canada, and Europe. Bennett is a performing member of Indiegrrl and plays regularly in the Southern California area, as both a solo artist and with her band.
" Kate Bennett is a Santa Barbara-based artist whose album, Over the Moon, reveals her ability as a good writer and a powerful vocalist. The baker's dozen cuts here have a country folk-rock base, but are enlivened by some sophisticated and contemporary arrangements. Heavy-hitting friends Jim Messina, Jeff Pevar and Kenny Loggins make cameo appearances. Of Bennett's quality songs, the most impressive are the rhythmic title cut, the superb ballad "Promise Me" and the endearingly melodic "Buddha"

Songs on Over the Moon fit together like the colors of a painting. When I listen to the CD, I am uplifted and intriqued. There is a mystical quality to the songs that reaches into my heart. The songs are deep yet tangible. Kate's voice is beautiful and calming, and together with the bright music and interesting lyrics, leaves an inprint on my mind so I find the songs running through my head even when I'm not listening to the CD. I bought several copies of Over the Moon to give to friends.
