Sass me Kate

This lady has such a sassy voice. It's laid-back but with lots of attitude - just perfect for jazz. Yet, she is original. I couldn't compare her to anyone. This is fine quality jazz.

'Kid Terrific'

This is a really nice album. For a young performer, Davis sings and plays with a lot of presence, personality, verve and complexity. She even reminds a bit of early Anita O'Day or June Christy, but definitely with her own style. She does sound young: but uses that to her advantage I think. And the instrumentals show off her ability on bass and violin too. My favorite 'debut' artist of '08 and someone to watch. Also, it helps that she has great support from excellent Northwest musicians like Randy Porter, Dave Frishberg, Rebecca Kilgore, members of PDXV etc. Nice to hear too some rarish tunes associated with Chet Baker like 'Forgetful' and 'Grey December,' and to hear 'Little Girl Blue' sung so well by someone who is relatively young. Very cool record!
