“Instrumental music that’s meaningful…” that was the focal point for guitarist Dominic Miller when he set out to record this masterful, gentle project with fellow multi-Grammy Award Nominee, pianist Peter Kater. One of the most successful pianists of our time, Peter has been recording thoughtful, melodic piano since 1983’s SPIRIT. While his music is often categorized as New Age, I think it’s safe to say that his songs transcend genre. The composer is uniquely diversified… in addition to his solo endeavors and his environmental and humanitarian efforts, he has recorded hugely successful projects with Native American flutist R. Carlos Nakai as well as critically-acclaimed film and television soundtracks. On IN A DREAM, recorded with long-time Sting guitarist Dominic Miller, the borders between guitar and piano; classical and jazz; the simple and complex have become transparent. In addition to this artful collaboration, Kenny Loggins has contributed evocative vocal textures while cellist Jaques Morelenbaum enriches the recording with soulful performances making IN A DREAM a beautiful landscape of music!

Dos grandes unidos sólo pueden crear algo único e increíble.
Nominado a los premios Grammy, In A Dream es uno de esos trabajos que enamoran, puedes escucharlo una y otra vez y aún así, continúa cautivando y emocionando. El pianista y compositor Peter Kater cuenta esta vez con la valiosa colaboración de Kenny Loggins (voces), Jaques Morelebaum (chelo) y del guitarrista Dominic Miller, quien ha compartido durante años escenario y grabaciones con el cantante Sting y que por casualidades del destino, coincidió con Kater en un proyecto musical para una película; decidieron que sería un sueño poder trabajar juntos. Qué propuesta tan acertada!.
"In A Dream" es pura maravilla. La pieza que da título al álbum posee algunos pasajes que recuerdan al famoso bolero de Maurice Ravel, la guitarra y el piano se entienden a la perfección, creando una melodía asentada entre dulce pasión y triste lamento. Una obra grandiosa!.
De carácter melancólico y arrepentido "Time Will Tell" es otra pieza compuesta para guitarra y piano. Nuevamente, ambos instrumentos van alternando sus melodías con una exquisitez y delicadeza únicas. Una fuerte lamentación que busca desesperada las puertas de la esperanza.
"What Lies Within" es una de mis preferidas. Una música que sin ser rápida es poderosa y cautivadora. El piano arranca arpegios llenos de pasión, mientras voces, el chelo de Jaques y la guitarra de Dominic acentúan el poder, la fuerza y el arrojo de esta bellísima y asombrosa composición. Realmente, emocionante!.
"And We Danced". Con ritmo amable, Kater arpegia al piano acordes de fondo para la guitarra de Dominic, que con alegría reproduce una grácil melodía. Es increíble como van cambiando los papeles, siendo la guitarra quien arpegia acordes, pasando el piano a un primer plano.
íntima y relajada es "Close To You", donde Miller rasguea incansable y el piano mantiene una melodía romántica que se ve acompañada por voces. Una pieza tierna y sosegada.
Alentadora y optimista es "Chasing The Sun". Ligeramente rápida, Peter y Dominic reproducen sus melodías con fina gracia, elevando el ánimo del oyente mientras Morelenbaum acompaña con el cálido sonido de su chelo. Otra de mis favoritas!.
"In Her Eyes" busca la belleza en una profunda mirada. Deleznable, la música es pausada, tranquila, pero infinitamente emotiva. Una composición romántica que realza toda la belleza de lo contemplado y cala el alma, creando un ambiente agradable e íntimo.
"Gut Feeling" es la primera obra compuesta por Miller para este trabajo. Una notable delicadeza, mimada, une a la guitarra y al piano, ambos dan vida a una frágil música que muestra como sendos instrumentos intentan escrupulosamente no sobresaltar al oyente, manteniendo una hermosa alianza. Increíble!.
Un rítmico baile entre guitarra y piano es "Clockwork". Sin un melodía definida, ambos instrumentos, junto al chelo, reproducen una música agitada creada por rápidos rasgueos de guitarra fingerstyle y marcados acordes de piano.
"Hand In Hand" es una composición entrañable, donde una suave conversación entre los instrumentos y unas apacibles voces surgen para rodear al oyente con un manto de notas cálidas. Otra de las obras destacables de este trabajo. Me gusta!.
La última composición de Miller es "Folk Story", una pieza que cuando Peter la escuchó, quedó prendado por su belleza, adaptándola para guitarra, piano y chelo. Una música de curso lento y de tono arropador que deja ver una hermosura quebradiza. Qué sensibilidad!.
Me pregunto como es posible que intangibles notas unidas en armonía puedan crear algo tan bello que acaricie mis sentidos de tal manera que consiga estremecerme, In A Dream lo ha logrado. Peter Kater y Dominic Miller han dado vida a un álbum soberbio y emocionante, una trabajo magistral donde dos grandes unidos sólo pueden crear algo único e increíble, In A Dream es el resultado. Un CD prodigioso e imprescindible. Muy Altamente recomendable!.

"In A Dream" is the Grammy-nominated release from pianist Peter Kater and British guitarist Dominic Miller. Kater has been a long-time fan of Miller’s music and felt it would be a “dream come true” to do an album with him. The two worked on some film music together, and Miller suggested that they collaborate on an album, hence the title. A blend of composed music and improvisation, the music is fresh, soothing, and elegantly beautiful. Adding to the magic is the soulful cello work of Jaques Morelenbaum and the wordless vocals of Kenny Loggins. As prolific as Peter Kater is, he never seems to miss the mark, and this CD could (and should) easily earn him the Grammy prize.
"In A Dream" begins with the title track and Miller soloing on the first verse, setting the soft-spoken, reflective mood of the album. The piano and guitar interaction is stunning in its effortless perfection. “Time Will Tell” is a gorgeous ballad that again weaves guitar and piano into a single entity with no one trying to be the “star,” letting the music itself stand in the spotlight. “What Lies Within” introduces the cello and layered vocals, creating an ethereal quartet. “And We Danced” picks up the tempo a bit with lighthearted grace and a gentle energy. “Close To You” is almost ambient with its quiet tenderness. Piano, guitar, and vocals are perfect together. “In Her Eyes” is like a peaceful whisper - tranquil and warm. “Gut Feeling” is one of Miller’s compositions - another piece where the two artists became one as the music evolved. “Clockwork” is a somewhat more abstract and energetic trio for piano, guitar, and cello - sparkling and slightly edgy, I love it! “Folk Story” closes the CD with another Miller composition, this one recorded in one take - amazing! The cello, piano, and guitar are seamless and effortless, ending the wonderful album with a gentle sigh.
"In A Dream" is another masterpiece from Peter Kater, and a stunning debut collaboration with Dominic Miller and company. We’re hoping it’s the first of a series! Very highly recommended!
