Album Notes

Katherine Hughes is both lead singer and violinist on this CD which takes a modern approach to a classic subject--the cycle of the seasons.
"Summer," "Fall," "Winter," and "Spring" are songs with rock instrumentation. Three of the four include string quartet, "Fall" adds double bass and soprano sax, and "Winter" features electric violin. Tenor sax rounds out "Summer."
Between the songs are interludes with varying instrumentation. The first is a soprano sax and piano improv over a shifting bed of string harmonics. The second is a violin and piano improv based on a theme from "Fall." The third is a sound collage using material from the songs, an interview, and other added layers.
The musicians on the CD are some of Chicago's finest players.
