notes

I was always a plonker -used to play piano and make up tunes since I was 8 years old. When I was 20 I decided that music was my thing and went to music college. After that I sent lots of demos away and was signed to Positive Records an Indie Label in Colchester where I recorded my Debut Album - Missionary Girl. The Album was made and then released but due to no promo nobody new it was out there or who I was. As a result I had no funds and needed to work to get by and so moved to the Isle of Man with my hubbie to find work.We both found jobs and got on with our lives and Missionary girl was forgotten. I continued to gig my songs and covers and am still playing gigs in the Isle of Man which I now earn my living from.

I have had two beautiful babies who are just the best children in the World - my love for them and my hubbie is infinate. I still love plonking on my piano and writing songs.
It has taken a big blow for me to regain my interest in the music business as in August I was diagnosed with breast Cancer and am going through chemo at the moment - but it has made me appreciate that life is too short - so here I am again but this time on my terms. I never wanted fame - just for my songs to be heard - and now - with a little help from my friends I can do just that.

Cancer is changing my perspective on life - making me a more positive person and allowing me to put my emotions back into my music - it has breathed the creative side back into me - I am working on another album right now amongst all the cancer treatment and will put it on this site as soon as its recorded.

The reason I write is cos I love it - it lights my fire and allows me to express my emotions which I hope can help others in some way. Iv'e been re-ignited in a way that I never expected and in a strange way I am grateful for that.

I'm hoping for a fab year ahead once all the treatments done and dusted - so here we go again - hope you like the songs - there is plenty more coming!!!

Love Always

So glad to find this again, after all these years (I rented the original from our library 6 or 7 years ago). I seem to recall that the cover art showed a bit more of the girl, though - I hate to think it's been censored! Good luck with the treatment. I'm already looking forward to the next album...

  • Worth The Wait - Oh Yes!
author: Cecilia Pattison-Levi (BMA Magazine Australia)

After waiting for the last seven years for Katherine Crowe’s debut album “Missionary Girl” to be released, it has finally seen the light of day and it was worth the wait. The album has not dated in any way and is a confident recording of a blossoming singer songwriter. The album is a mix of light and dark topics and sounds. The topics of suicide, losing faith, wasted friends and betrayal of the 'Missionary Girl' surface but all wrapped up in surprising musical shifts. The stand out is the first track the fantastic song ‘Treading Water’ which I managed to track down as a single in 2006 from the USA and it is breezy pop number. Crowe utilizes the sounds of blues 'Escape', jazz 'Cleaner Man'and pop and rock to fill out her interesting songs. For all those waiting for this album, this is definitely worth adding to your collection and I can’t wait to hear more from Katherine Crowe. I thank the day when I saved that Q magazine review and kept trying to find this album. Outstanding!
