A collection of flat-out bluegrass from one of the West Coast’s premier bluegrass (and related) bands. Band leader Kathy Kallick has had a strong presence in bluegrass since the 1970s, as part of the Good Ol’ Persons, through collaborations with Laurie Lewis, and most recently with her own Kathy Kallick Band. The band’s new recording contains eight powerful and evocative Kallick compositions, hot new tunes from Tom Bekeny and Avram Siegel, Amy Stenberg’s glorious treatments of songs by Jake Landers and Don Gibson, tasty fiddling throughout from Brian Wicklund, and distinctive versions of classic songs learned from Jimmy Martin, the Carter Family, and Hank Williams. The sessions for the recording of the CD were done at Tomland Studios, where Kathy recently recorded her previous album, Reason & Rhyme.
Kathy Kallick: guitar, lead & harmony vocals
Tom Bekeny: mandolin, harmony vocals
Avram Siegel: banjo, lead guitar, harmony vocals
Amy Stenberg: acoustic bass, harmony & lead (7,10) vocals
Brian Wicklund: fiddle, harmony vocals
Co-produced by The Kathy Kallick Band and Tom Size
Recorded, mixed, and mastered by Tom Size at Tomland Studios
"There is nothing to fault on this cd. The song selection is great, the band is cooking when needed and laid back when the song requires it.
I don't believe Kathy has ever issued a bad cd, and the band is just as good in concert."
- John A. Gregorio (Castalian Springs, TN)
