Album Notes

Kathy X - History

Brixton, 2000: Bored and constrained by the sterile, DJ dominated music scene in her native London, Kathy Freeman moved to Berlin with a few Link Wray CD´s, a beat-up SG and a dream of creating a 100% live, rockin´, power trio.
In Germany she continued to play with UK party-band Death Valley Surfers and searched far and wide for the right guys to play in her own project.

In August 2002 during a quick trip back to the UK, Mark Penington (The Caravans) produced her first solo recording.
Later that month, back in Berlin she met German slap-bass-ace Rob Raw (Rawheads, Mad Sin) at the notorious Franken Bar in Kreuzberg. They joined forces and recruited Philadelphia Dave Crome on sticks. (sideman for Bo Diddley, Del Shannon, Danny & the Juniors and D.J. Wolfman Jack, among others).

The original line up of Kathy X played European shows with the likes of the Horror Pops, Paul Roman 3, Frantic Flintstones, Ricochets, Long Tall Texans, The Peacocks and the Meteors and put on shows at major German Tattoo conventions, despite Dave Crome being the only one who had gotten within 2 yards of a tattooing needle.

Eventually the call of Dave’s native USA was too strong and he returned there in 2006. His departure was a sad loss to the band, but Kathy X has continued to rock with temporary or stand-in drummers, and as a duo. Now Berliner Felix “Duck” Burkhardt is keeping the Kathy X drum-stool warm, and future recordings are more than likely. Watch this space.

Kathy X Ready For Anything says it all. They are ready to rock. I love the raw guitar and vocals. My favorite tracks are I Let The Devil In and I Love Rock And Roll which by the way earned the band a personal accolade from Alan Merrill, the composer of that classic.
